What is he, a Russian national costume?

Everyone should remember his roots and know the history of his native people. That is why I want to consider such an important detail of Russian culture as the Russian men's national costume.

About men

First of all, it should be noted that the old menswear did not differ in variety. Unlike women's suits, it was the same type. The suit consisted of a shirt and trousers. It is interesting that, unlike the women's costume, the man emphasized the figure, while the national ladies' dress was concealed. Also, men wore hats.

the cloth

What materials were made of the Russian national costume? When clothes were made completely at home, for this we used canvas, cloth, variegated, sheepskin. Somewhat later, with the introduction of industrial production, such factory fabrics as satin, chintz, kumach and cheap wool were added.

Shirt

It was said above that the male Russian folk costume consists of only two basic units. What is the upper part of the clothes? At all times it was a shirt with a high collar-stand. As for length, it was quite elongated, worn over pants and always tied with a belt. The colors could be any, but almost always light - white, beige, grayish. Necessarily the shirt was decorated with embroidery. It was located on the neck, sleeves, the bottom of the product. It was also possible to sew the given element of clothing with a simple braid. The color was predominantly red (especially in wedding shirts, which the bride should have decorated with embroidery), it had its own special, sacred meaning and such decoration was also an amulet. It should be noted that all men wore shirts, starting from the smallest age. It was a universal clothing for any generation.

Pants

What else is included in the men's Russian folk costume? These pants are ports. They were sewn from a striped fabric of preferably blue color, were slightly shortened, t. Refueled in leggings or boots. As for the width, they were often tight-fitting, although some wore something like a trousers. While the fashion did not come to the pockets, the pouch and scallop were simply tied to the belt.

Belt

An important detail of the costume is the belt that the men tied. At young guys it was wide and long, at married - narrower and short. Interestingly, men of young age tied him around the waist, and the elderly as a symbol of solid age - under the belly.

Headdress

What else do you need to remember to complement the Russian folk costume? Photos can suggest that at all times men wore hats. Previously, these were gray wretches, sometimes - straw hats (in summer), a little later - caplets - a special kind of cap (it should be noted that these headgears were always decorated with ribbons, beads, flowers, braid). The winter variant is malachi and ear-flaps.

Outerwear

What else is rich in Russian folk costume for men? Pictures testify that, depending on the season, men wore fur coats, caftans, sheepskin coats, suites. If the family was richer, the outer clothing could be decorated with fur collars. If, however, the poorer, the collars were made high, standing, to better protect against cold and frost.
