What is a tripod, its arrangement and application?

Before attending a chemistry lesson, it is recommended that you read the questions about what a tripod is and why it is needed. A holder is used to support flasks, tools and other devices. Material for it is selected from heavy metals, so that the post does not fall after fixing a vessel with a liquid on it.

Why do I need a counter?

When considering the question of what a tripod is, the main purpose of using it is static and reliable retention of objects. The area of use of the rack is extensive. In addition to the laboratory, it can be used for production purposes.

The value of the tripod has found application in the production of photography. A tripod or single-bar stand is used to place a lens or flash on it. There are models with several mounts, sometimes unique. Thanks to this device, the picture is obtained from a certain angle without blurring.

In chemistry and medicine, the tripod helps to suspend the flask to heat it. Often in the terminals, tubes are placed that can not be placed vertically. A variety of detachable connections allows you to accurately set the desired position in space.

Device Features

Let's define what a tripod is:

  • The device is from the laboratory's auxiliary equipment, which serves to hold the vessels and utensils.
  • The word "tripod" is used to designate a bearing support, on which something is fixed by means of clamps or ties.
  • The tripod is characterized by the presence of fastening elements, which are regulated by the clamping legs vertically and horizontally.
  • There are horizontal and vertical executions. The first type is mainly used to place test tubes in it. In this device, work with laboratory equipment is facilitated.

The vertical version has in the base a metal plate of great weight, into which a metal stand is mounted. Clamps with paws are already attached to it.

What does the device consist of?

To understand what a tripod is, you should familiarize yourself with its constituent parts. The base is often made of cast iron. It is heavy and does not let fall to the counter. Its weight is selected to the maximum possible container filled with liquid. Selecting the wrong load, you can drop the product and get a burn from the chemical.

To fix bulbs, test tubes and other laboratory equipment, you can use the horizontal version of a tripod with two bases, pillars and a fly-bar in the form of the letter P. It allows you to place a large number of attachments required daily.

To work with a large number of tubes, single-stage or double-deck tripods with heavy bases are chosen to reduce the risk of overturning the installation. All cells have unique numbers to facilitate the marking and to avoid confusion with intensive change of containers.

Materials of elements

Elements of the device are painted with a powdery moisture-resistant coating, capable of withstanding a short-term chemical attack in case of accidental failure. Often the metal parts are covered with plastic from above. This solution allows you not to worry about the reagents getting on the tripod parts.

The upper part of the test tube rack is made of plastic or metal with a silicone coating that does not react with reagents and chemicals. In the case of a two-tiered version, metal rods made of stainless steel are used to stiffen the structure.

The exposed metal parts of the fastening elements are made of non-corrosive substances of increased strength, more often they choose an anticorrosive medical steel.

Fasteners

The main value of the laboratory tripod in chemical and physical processes is the fixation of all kinds of medical equipment. Therefore, the main purpose in choosing the appropriate device is to maintain the universality in use. On one rack are often placed more than 3 types of clamps, which vary for each experience.

Kits of fasteners can consist of the following elements:

  • The manipulation table under the spirit lamp, flasks and other components of the experiment.
  • Holders-clutches are fixed to the rack for fixation at a certain height.
  • Large and small rings with clamps are used as a stand for various capacities: flasks, test tubes.
  • Paws clamping the throat of dishes or carrying part of another tool.
  • Brackets for burettes.

Sequence of assembly

In schools, in chemistry lessons, they begin to learn what the value of a laboratory tripod is. To understand the purpose of the device, the first thing to do is to assemble it.

It is recommended to follow a certain sequence of actions:

  1. On the surface of the table is a heavy base.
  2. The rack is screwed in, the connection is securely fixed with a key.
  3. The first on the rack is threaded fastening the turntable.
  4. The further sequence is selected by the laboratory technician independently for a specific operation.
  5. When tightening the fasteners, do not use excessive force. The reliability of the obtained compound should be verified by pressing until the dishes containing chemicals are placed on it. Use standard items for non-manufacturer-specified purposes entails the potential for damage to the tripod. Exceed the installed load is also not worth it, the stand will not stand, and the whole structure will fall to the side.

Pay attention to the mounting surface of the tripod. It should be flat with respect to the horizontal. It is forbidden for laboratory experiments to lay any objects under the legs of the base in order to align the structure. The table under the tests must have good rigidity and have an even upper part.

Which model to choose?

While viewing the existing models are determined with what the value of the tripod is in chemistry. For a specific task, you need to choose the appropriate characteristics: the number of fastenings, the height and type of the rack, the weight of the base, the type of coverage of the elements. If no additional experiments are conducted, no one will spend extra money on buying an expensive set meaningless.

With a small amount of corrosive liquids, it is allowed to use metal stands made of galvanized or stainless steel. Polypropylene products are in demand for working with test tubes. The feet of the holders are selected with a coating of silicone, so as not to spoil the glass surface of the flasks when clamping.

Product Requirements

When examining any tripod, you should pay attention to the following characteristics:

  • Strength of the rack and fixing elements should exceed several times the daily weight of materials and utensils.
  • The height of the rack is selected a little more than desired.
  • Rubber seals are needed to fix utensils that do not have special attachment points.
  • Each cell should be marked with letters and numbers if a tripod is used for the tubes. The value of this part is checked in practice, it allows you to quickly find the right capacity and not to confuse it with other reagents.
  • The presence of all kinds of rings, ties, bindings for a specific type of experience.
  • Resistance to the temperature of the tripod is taken into account.
  • The principle of disassembly and assembly, as well as convenience in the storage of structural elements.

Universal models of tripods are preferable in any laboratory. In schools, this is especially true because of the huge list of different experiments in the lessons of chemistry, biology, physics. And a large number of students do not allow choosing the models of tripods of weak strength. Also, the simplicity of assembly is important, without the use of additional keys.

Precautions when working with a rack

For the proper operation of medical equipment, it is recommended that you read the attached instructions. All fasteners can only be unscrewed after the reagents are removed from the work area. The liquid merges as far as possible. If it is hot, then give it time to cool down.

It is recommended that the flasks be removed from the legs when closed. With several clamping elements, the upper foot is first unscrewed, then the remaining containers are subsequently removed. Do not try to loosen the fasteners immediately on the rack. First of all, they release the paws, which directly hold the throat of the bulb itself.
