What is a hypha? GIF-images "VKontakte" and not only

Over the past year, animated images have become an integral part of social networks and entertainment resources. In this regard, users of VKontakte and other social media were interested in the question of what a hypha is.

The concept of the format

GIF can be decrypted as a "format for sharing graphic images." It was developed by CompuServe in 1987 in order to transfer raster images over the network.

Pictures with the extension. GIF can be stored without sacrificing quality and count up to 256 of the most common colors. There is a possibility of support and more shades in the animations with a separate palette for each frame and zero delay between the displays. The format implies working with a standard color palette. The picture is saved line by line. Thanks to LZW compression, files with a lot of homogeneous areas are easily compressed. The image does not lose its clarity.

Advanced GIF images

What does a hypha mean for a modern user if there is no animation in it? This is not what he wanted. So soon after the creation the format was improved: since 1989, GIF-files can be dynamic and contain transparent areas. An animated gifka is an image that contains several frames, as well as information about the frequency and order of their output to the screen. As a rule, the process is looped, and after the end of the display, the hypha is restarted.

Among the colors of the palette, you can declare transparent. In this case, modern browsers will display the background through unpainted areas. Partial transparency, supported in PNG, is not typical for hyphae: a pixel can be either filled or transparent.

Where is the GIF format used?

Finding out what a hypha is, you can conclude: this type of images is very convenient to use where the file should have a minimum size. Such an area is the Internet: in the pursuit of the speed of loading pages, developers try to use as few "heavy" images as possible, preferring lightweight hyphas.

The GIF format is common in web design. It is great for sending small pictures, including those containing text. Beautifully designed buttons with various inscriptions are nothing but gifki. However, GIF is not suitable for saving photos. For this purpose, JPEG (JPG) is ideal: this format is not limited in the number of colors displayed.

Animated gifki often used in the design of sites. Thanks to the ability to leave pixels transparent, GIF images perfectly fit into the sequence of other images.

Specifications

What is a hypha? First of all, this is a reduced in "weight" image. The format assumes LZW-compression, which allows you to combine duplicate pixels. Therefore, the more homogeneous areas, the stronger the image will be reduced. The algorithm allows you to reduce the size of eight-bit images with a palette without sacrificing quality: the packed data can be completely restored. As for the photos, the restriction of 256 colors will be irreversible.

The LZW algorithm searches for identical sections of the file, called phrases, assigns markers to them and writes them to the table. For example, in the picture there are 70 sets of pixels, painted in orange, yellow and pink. Each of them will be assigned the same value - for example, 8. The data will be saved 70 times as a record with a figure eight. The less noise in the picture, the better the compression.

Another feature of the format is the interlacing method of storing information. The strings are divided into groups, their order within the file changes. While the image is being loaded, it gradually appears. Thus, until the hypha has fully loaded, it can be seen, but only with a lower resolution.

First, write 1, 5, 9 and further lines with an interval of "4", in the same order they appear at boot. When 25% is downloaded, you can see a blurry picture. Then appear 3, 7, 11 and further lines, the image becomes 2 times clearer. Then the remaining rows (2, 6, 10 ... and 4, 8, 12 ...) are loaded and the picture becomes final. This method of recording slightly increases the size of the hypha, but the opportunity to see it before the end of the download fully justifies this small flaw.

What is the hypha "VKontakte"?

Animated images uploaded by VC users are those very moving images in GIF format. For those who already know what a hypha is, it will be interesting to learn how to place it on a social network.

To insert an animation from another site, you need to right-click on it and find an item in the menu that allows you to copy the URL (URL). Then you need to go to the "VKontakte" site and insert the address into the place where the hypha should appear (for example, in the field where you write the post text on the wall). The system will automatically download the picture, after which the link can be removed. Press Enter to publish the hypha.

To load a hypha from a computer, it needs to be placed in the "Documents" section (the section itself opens in the settings). Click "add document", select the access level. To put a hypha in a message or post, you need to click the "Attach" button and find the desired file.

Animated images seen from friends, you can save yourself. To do this, expand the image with the "+" button, right-click on it and select the desired item in the menu.

What is hypha in VC? It's a great way to decorate your profile, express emotions, entertain yourself and friends. Add animations in correspondence or on the wall from your own computer or Internet sites: now you know how to do it!
