Votkinsky Machine-Building Plant: history, products, address

GVO "Votkinsky Machine Building Plant" is a unique multi-profile enterprise that produces a wide range of products. VZ is the largest producer of Topol-M, Bulava, Yars missiles, which form the basis of the Russian Federation's "nuclear shield". In addition, there are machines, metal products, oil and gas equipment, various types of weapons, and much more.

Historical reference

The Votkinsky machine-building plant was founded by Count Shuvalov in 1759. The company's profile was the smelting of cast iron, steel and the subsequent fabrication of metal structures. Since 1773, most of the products have been anchors for the Russian fleet. In our time, several anchors are installed on pedestals, becoming a symbol of the plant and the city of Votkinsk.

At the beginning of the XIX century, the self-taught self-taught Badayev developed the production of cast high-quality steel. It was used to produce medical instruments, stamps, cutting tools. In 1858 factory workers were instructed to assemble a skeleton for the famous spire of the Peter and Paul Fortress, and the order was executed with honor.

With the improvement of technologies, the productivity and quality of the metal smelted increased. Breakthrough was the 1871st - this year at the Votkinsk plant launched the first open-hearth furnace in the Urals. Over time, VMZ has mastered the production of armored steel, which went to strengthen the sides of many Russian battleships.

From iron smelting to mechanical engineering

Since the middle of the XIX century, the Votkinsky Machine-Building Plant began to manufacture sophisticated equipment, and, first of all, ships of various types. A total of 400 ships, barges and boats were sailed. The next stage was the assembly of steam locomotives. Since the enterprise was not connected with the "big earth" with a railway branch, the ready locomotives were rafted on giant barges first along the small rivers Votka and Siva, then Kama and Volga.

The large-scale project of laying Transsib - a railway line through the Urals and Siberia - required a huge amount of metal for the production of rails, sections, bridges. Votkinsky plant took up the installation of bridge structures. By 1916, the company became the leader in the total length of railway bridges.

The Soviet period

In the civil war, the Votkinsky machine-building plant suffered greatly. It took 6 years to restore it. The second birth of the enterprise took place on 09/09/1925. First, in the renovated workshops, agricultural machinery was manufactured, and since 1930 - gold mining dredges and steam excavators. In 1937, VMZ was transferred to the production of military equipment - howitzers and anti-tank guns. More than 50,000 guns were delivered to the troops.

In the 1950s, the Votkinsky machine-building plant started production of peaceful products. Machines, agricultural machinery, tower cranes, locomotives, locomobiles were manufactured at the enterprise in large quantities. Gradually, the foundry was reduced, which occupied significant areas.

Production of missiles

In 1957, the government ordered the deployment of missiles at the plant, including nuclear ones. In 1960, after a series of upgrades, the OT 8K14 missile was developed, which allowed to hit targets at a 300-kilometer distance. It was produced at the Votkinsk plant for 25 years and was widely exported.

OTR 9M76 became even more powerful, but in the "period of detente" between the USSR and the Western bloc was destroyed in accordance with the Treaty on the Elimination of the INF Treaty. In 1977, a famous Oka missile was created, replacing the 8K14 model. In the 90's, VSW established the production of the operational-tactical "Point-U", which is still in use.

Strategic missiles began to be produced in 1966. The first was 15Ж45 (SS-20) on the basis of mobile PGRK "Pioneer". Two-stage design allowed to overcome 4500-5500 km depending on the modification. The later mobile Topol complex with a range of 10,500 hit allowed the consolidation of nuclear parity between the USSR and NATO. The improved version of Topol-M at the moment is the basis of Russia's strategic security. Votkinsky plant annually produces several missiles for mobile and stationary complexes.

The evolutionary development of the "Topol" family is the intercontinental RK "Yars" with divisible parts. Its precise tactical and technical characteristics are classified. At the moment on the basis of "Yars" BZHRK "Barguzin" is being designed.

Votkinsky Machine Building Plant: products

VSW produces a wide range of military and civilian products. It:

  • Operational and tactical missiles for the Iskander-M missile.
  • Nuclear ballistic missiles (BR) of land-based "Topol-M", "Yars".
  • The sea-based sea basing station "Bulava".
  • Space rockets based on BR for the output of satellites.
  • Metal-cutting machines and equipment.
  • Equipment for oil and gas companies.
  • Special equipment for nuclear energy.
  • Metal structures.

Conclusion

The enterprise for Russia is unique. This is the "backbone" of the country's military industry in terms of producing nuclear weapons. President Putin, being in the factory in 2011, ordered to double the production of ballistic missiles. And there is no doubt that the reliable logistics will be provided by the Votkinsky machine-building plant. Address: 427430, Udmurt Republic, Votkinsk city, Decembrists-8 street.
