Vatican paid $ 4 billion on claims of child molestation

The sensation of child molestation by the Roman Catholic Church rises again and again, and yet, one way or another, it continues to occur. Probably most people who watch news and read newspapers have an idea of what is happening. But let's look at the situation that has developed in the Vatican today.

Claims for claims

Although, of course, we can not assess the innocence of the child, but we are quite able to see how much the Roman Catholic Church has already paid in court claims about an endless epidemic of child molestation that continues to wreak havoc in the ranks of priests.

So, since 1950, the Vatican has paid almost $ 4 million to settle all claims. This amount may even be a little understated, since no one is able to track how much was agreed on the sidelines.

The figure is based on a three-month study of data, which includes a survey of more than 7800 articles found in databases. Reports from the Conference of Catholic Bishops of the USA were also used.

If the sum of these payments were divided equally among 197 dioceses in the United States, each of them would receive about 20 million dollars. This is an incredible amount of cash from hardworking people who support the goodwill and intentions of the Church. These people can be the parents of small boys who are sexually abused. They are used to cover the incomprehensible crimes that priests perform.

From the first words

In the early 90's, a monk who worked in the Vatican gave an interview to The New Yorker. He admitted that the Church spends huge sums to settle cases of sexual violence among priests. Only in 1992, one of the Catholic dioceses in the United States paid $ 400 million to settle hundreds of cases of corruption of minors. At that time, this amount shocked many, but since then the figures of payments continue to grow exponentially. People who work in the Vatican are well aware of this problem, but still they refuse to administer justice.

The position of Pope Francis

When Francis addressed a hundred bishops on this issue, he said: "I understand how much pain you have had to endure in recent years. And I supported your generosity in order to bring healing to the victims, knowing that this will help to heal us. This was to ensure that such crimes will never happen again. "

His words about generosity once again showed that the Church is in fact more concerned about its reputation than with morality.

It is worth noting that Francis overlooked the fact that many dioceses throughout the country do not disclose the names of rapists and, moreover, continue to oppose reforming the status of the law on restriction, which covers priests who are not ready to answer for their crimes.

Inactivity of the Church

Many hoped that the Church would stop hiding scandals related to sexual crimes against minors. But most have already lost hope. Pope Francis can not say anything useful, because the Catholic priests have already spoken about this. We have been hearing the same thing for many decades. He refused to take measures to expose even one name associated with these scandals. But Francis could have demoted the guilty, or deprived the priest of the priest at least one of them to set an example to others. Nevertheless, he does not.

For many hundreds of years, children suffered from the hands of priests, who nevertheless retained their authority and status in the Church. Still, many organizations, researchers and journalists continue to raise awareness among the general public, while the Catholic Church is struggling, blocking bills that should have extended the statute of limitations in such cases.
