Poltava

The Poltava region occupies the eastern part of Ukraine. It is known primarily for its administrative and cultural center, Poltava. Mention of this city can be found in the 12th century in the Ipatiev Chronicle. However, numerous excavations conducted on its territory indicate that the first settlements here arose in the Paleolithic period. For its long history Poltava many times passed from hand to hand. Lubny were founded just in the year when Vladimir baptized Rus. For a long time he was ruled by the Vishnevetsky family. The widow of Prince Michael Rain Mohylanka built a temple on his own money, and soon in the same area founded the Mgar monastery. It became the largest Orthodox center. Now on the territory of the city there are several existing and at the same time historical monuments. This Mgarsky monastery, the Transfiguration Cathedral and the monastery, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin. Kremenchuk, a beautiful city and regional center, was founded in the form of a defensive fortress in the distant 16th century. Cities of regional importance

In ancient times, Khorol more than once reflected the raids of nomadic tribes, and the Tatar-Mongols were almost completely destroyed. Other regional cities of Poltava - Grebenka (named after the Ukrainian writer), Zenkov, Chervonozavodskoye. They and several other settlements form the districts of the Poltava region, which number twenty-five.

Former Orchik

In the seventies of the 17th century Orchik settlement was founded. The name she received from the river of the same name, the tributary of the Orel. Now it is the city of Karlovka (Poltava region). This name was given to the settlement by Bernhard Weisbach, who received it as a token of gratitude for the service of Russia as a general. Weisbach was originally from Karlovy Vary.
