Treatment of concussion: what you need to know

Concussion is the easiest damage to the brain. It is also the most common traumatic brain injury. Concussion directly depends on the impact, which fell on the head. It is worth noting that no one is insured against this injury. We can accidentally fall, hit the corner, roll down the steps, slip on the ice, in short, unsafe places are waiting for us everywhere.

Many people are too light-minded about this disease and are not going to treat it. In fact, with the slightest suspicion of a concussion, you should immediately consult a doctor. It must be done by the victim himself, or accompanied by relatives and eyewitnesses of what happened. How to determine a concussion?

In the first hours after the injury you need to watch the victim. As a rule, a sign of concussion is a loss of consciousness for less than 30 minutes. If consciousness is lost for a longer period of time, it is likely that there is more serious damage to the brain. Among the signs and a single attack of vomiting, pain in the head, a feeling of nausea, weakness, drowsiness, noise in the ears, dizziness, impaired vision, memory, frequent repetition of the same words, gestures. If the victim has one or more symptoms, you should immediately consult a doctor.

Treatment of concussion begins with the moment when the first medical aid is provided. The patient should be given a comfortable horizontal position, provide peace and quiet, and must call an ambulance or deliver the patient to the nearest medical unit. Only the doctor will be able to assess the whole situation and prescribe the necessary treatment. In most cases, the patient is hospitalized for several days, during which the bed rest and moderate mental load will be prescribed.

Treatment of concussion involves prescribing medications to the patient. Drugs with concussion are primarily analgesics, sedative and hypnotic. Specific treatment will be prescribed by the attending physician, therefore, based on the Internet, one should not take any medications on their own, avoiding the treatment of a specialist.

Treatment of concussion, when all the prescriptions of a doctor is performed, usually ends successfully. The general condition basically improves already in the first week, less often - the second week. But there are cases when the recovery can take up to one year. Usually this happens when the patient has not completed the course of treatment. In rare cases, concussion can lead to frivolous different mental abnormalities. It is worth noting that the treatment of concussion does not end with the taking of medicines alone. Subsequently, the patient should be observed for some time with a neurologist.

Thus, concussion, although not the most serious disease, but requires treatment, which can appoint only a doctor. To prevent this head injury, you must follow the precautionary measures:
