Tile for ceiling: types, properties, gluing

For the decoration and finishing of ceilings in residential and non-residential premises use different types of materials and technologies. Not all of them can be used in rooms with high humidity, for example, in the bathroom or in the kitchen. First of all, this refers to the wallpaper. If you do not have the opportunity to make suspended or stretched ceilings in these rooms, you can use more economical, but beautiful finishes, for example, ceiling tiles.

The ceiling tile is made of polystyrene. This material has several advantages:

  1. Environmentally friendly, absolutely harmless to human health;
  2. Watertightness: the tile can be used in a room with high humidity;
  3. Insulating properties: polystyrene is an additional sound, moisture and thermal insulation;
  4. A range of textures and colors allows you to realize almost any design idea;
  5. Availability: the price of tiles allows you to use it even on a large area.

Depending on the method of production, the ceiling tile is of three types:

  1. Extruded.
  2. Injection.
  3. Pressed (stamped).

Extruded tiles

Extruded tiles are made of polystyrene tape. Its surface is absolutely smooth, which facilitates the care of such a surface, can be snow-white, color or imitate natural materials, for example, stone, wood or fabric. Extruded tiles always have edging, so on the ceiling it is divided into squares. Variety of assortment allows you to balance different collections of this coating, which makes it unique in every home.

Injection tiles

The injection tile has a porous structure. Thanks to a special production technology, it turns out to be unusually strong and resistant to mechanical damage. On its surface there are no relief drops and patterns, so when properly laid, the seamless ceiling tile forms a continuous web that is later to be painted.

Stamped tiles

Stamped tile refers to the cheapest type of coating: this is due to the inexpensive type of production, a small assortment of the pattern and insufficient strength of the material. Therefore, its operation requires utmost care and caution, as with the gluing, and in the further care. Despite these drawbacks, the stamped ceiling tile is quite in demand among consumers. With the right design approach (selection and configuration of different reliefs or unusual painting), it can also be given enough originality and uniqueness.

Ceiling tiles

Installation of ceiling tiles does not require special skills, it is enough to read the instructions and strictly adhere to it. No special preparation of the surface is required: the ceiling should be cleaned and slightly leveled with plaster. If the foundation is plywood or chipboard, then the surface must be primed. The big plus of this decorative coating is that it lies almost on any surface (the main thing is that it is low-fat, clean and dry), hiding a lot of defects.

If you use the same type, for example, stamped or injection, tile, then start gluing from any convenient place, for example from the wall. If an extruded tile with a pattern is used, then it is necessary to start sticking from the compositional center. To determine it, stretch obliquely from corner to corner through the center of the room two ropes: the intersection and will be the center.

Glue for ceiling tiles

Select glue for ceiling tiles easily enough. The modern market of building materials offers a wide range of this mixture. The main principle is that the base of the glue is aquabase, so the residues are easily removed with a damp cloth. The application of glue on the tile is usually depicted on the instruction: it is usually a dashed line crosswise and solid throughout the perimeter of the tile.

With proper gluing and use, the ceiling tile will last a long time, pleasing you with original design and eccentricity.
