Theater "New Opera": history, repertoire

Capital theaters know and love all the musical institutions of Moscow. Among them is the "New Opera". This is a relatively young theater. It was opened in the early 90s of the 20th century. Its creator is considered to be the conductor Evgeny Kolobov. Today the organization bears his name.

The early years are the most difficult

The theater "New Opera" was created almost at the same time as the collapse of the Soviet Union. These were difficult years. The lack of money, low salaries and lack of prospects forced many talented artists to leave the country. At the same time, the first years of new Russia were marked by an unprecedented creative take-off. During this period, Yevgeny Kolobov, with the support of the mayor of our capital Yuri Luzhkov, organized this unique project.

Theater "New Opera" positioned a special approach to the repertoire. In the Soviet Union, mostly well-known works of the past were staged. Opera masterpieces of Mozart, Puccini and Tchaikovsky were very popular and popular with the public. The staff of the new musical and theatrical institution in Moscow has set very different goals.

Forgotten Masterpieces

The main direction of the work of Yevgeny Kolobov was the production of previously unknown classical works in Russia. The Theater "New Opera" first showed the audience "Maria Stuart" Donizetti, "Two Foscari" Verdi, "Hamlet" Tom and many other undeservedly forgotten works.

Work on little-known masterpieces in Russia, especially in the difficult period of the early 90's, had its own peculiarities. Scores often had to be ordered in Europe, sometimes even archival research was required. Costumes and decorations were expensive. But the art director did not turn off the chosen path. Yevgeny Kolobov, who was called "the violent maestro" for style and manner of performance, showed will and firmness of character.

Today, the theater "New Opera" - one of the best Moscow institutions of art profile. It entered the history of the city and even the whole country. It is the "New Opera" who owns the great honor of the first performance in Russia of Modest Mussorgsky's work "Boris Godunov" in the author's edition. This premiere in gold letters inscribed the name of the theater in the history of our country's culture.

The violent maestro

More than ten years, the "New Opera" led Kolobov. During these years the theater had a bright imprint of his creative personality. After the death of the conductor, the staff of the institution continued the traditions of the maestro. Moscow theater "New Opera" today, as before, includes in the repertoire of unknown pages of Russian and foreign classics.

The poster is decorated with director's versions of popular and favorite opera masterpieces, in particular Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky and Rigoletto by Verdi. An important part of the repertoire is the works of composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. The scene was seen by Richard Strauss's Capriccio, Maurice Ravel's The Child and the Magic, Vladimir Martynov's School of Wives.

Mirror Hall and Epiphany Festivals

Modern operas require significant performing powers. They are complex and often incomprehensible to the general public. "New Opera" overcame these obstacles. Performances are very popular. Little effort is required from musicians and the work of the German composer and playwright Richard Wagner. The performances of his operas need considerable material and technical resources. Musical theater "New Opera" accepted the challenge and implemented the Moscow premiere of "Tristan and Isolde" - one of the most complex Wagner masterpieces.

Evgeny Kolobov laid another tradition, which for many years is supported by a creative team - performances by artists in the foyer. This room is also called the Mirror Hall. Here, in a relaxed atmosphere, there are children's performances and concerts of choral, vocal and instrumental music. The theater's business card is the Epiphany Festival. In these winter days the collective pleases its fans with premieres.

Poster and decorating her masterpieces

Theater "New Opera", the repertoire of which is very rich, offers viewers magnificent operas. Still beats records of attendance of Boris Godunov Mussorgsky, and the famous "La Boheme" Puccini talks about the poor love of the poor poet. The familiar and outwardly traditional "Eugene Onegin" is ringing with a tragic note. The treatment of "Prince Igor" is ambiguous. This opera by Alexander Borodin is one of the exemplary works of Russian music. However, the director was able to disclose new aspects of the people's favorite works. For the sake of a particular concept, even the sequence of numbers changes. The opera ends not with a solemn "Glory" (as written in the author's score), but with a tragic chorus of peasants who lost their home.

A unique project is the Voice of a Woman. It consists of three one-act performances: Gubarenko's Tenderness, Spadawekkia's Stranger's Letters, and Tariverdiev's Expectations. In these operas, a single character is a woman, breaking the chains of suffering with the power of her love.
