The Temple of the Deposition in Leonov. The Temple of Deposition in Donskoy

All cultural and cognitive activities necessarily include the study of monuments of ancient architecture. This is important for mastering the native culture and inculcating spiritual values. But church-temple complexes are absolutely unique structures. They can be considered as an architectural heritage, a feat of Russian masters, as a history of the clergy and, of course, as a sacred monastery. Today we will talk about the temple of the Deposition in Leonov and on the Don. Their stories are somewhat similar, but in any case, they both appeared to honor the memory of the great event.

History

Its existence is not the first century. The temple of the Deposition in Leonov is known from the first half of the 17th century. The first notes about him refer to an even earlier period, 1635, then this place was a wooden church. The construction of the stone church, which survived and works to this day, occurred during the reign of Prince Khovansky.

This was his gesture of remorse for his addiction to alcohol and the violation of church rules. After the death of the prince, the Temple of the Deposition in Leonov was closed and for a long time did not work (from 1800 to 1859). It happened because the new prince was disturbed by the bell ringing. Before the opening, it was restored at the expense of the manufacturer Molchanov. Soviet times, he lived relatively quietly, only 12 years (from 1930 to 1942) was closed, the rest of the time acted. Since 1859, the temple has not been reconstructed and restructured, so it has come down to our times.

Architectural style

The Church of the Deposition of the Resurrection in Leonov was built in the Baroque style, which at that time was very popular. In place of the simple geometric forms of the wooden church came fanciful, polygonal facades and magnificent interior decoration. Even today the temple looks very beautiful and interesting. The entrance to the shrine is a white stone arch with lattice doors. Inside there is a cozy public garden, which is especially beautiful in autumn. On the inner walls of the church you can see the murals of the Robe of the Virgin Mary in Vlaherna. The whole territory is buried in the greenery of trees, so it's not easy to photograph the temple of the Deposition in Leonov. Photos are good, that is, fully demonstrating the beauty of the church, only in the fall, when the foliage flew around. In winter, snow-white walls merge with the background, which somewhat spoils the impression.

Revered relics and shrines

For believing people, it is icons that are the object of veneration and worship. There are several ancient paintings that are particularly admired. It is they who glorify the Leonov Temple of the Deposition. In the main side-chapel of the church, on the right side of the Altar is the revered temple icon of the Robe of the Holy Virgin with a piece of Riza of the Mother of God. On the right is the icon of St. Sergius of Radonezh, St. Dmitry of Rostov, the icon of the Mother of God of Kazan.

To the left of the Altar is the Revered Icon of the Smolensk Mother of God, which dates back to the 16th century. In total, the temple has more than 50 icons. Hundreds of believers come here daily to raise their prayers to the Lord.

Shrines

The Church of the Deposition of the Virgin in Leonovo is of special value. It is a relic, in which the particles of many saints are located. This is the main pride of the church and the object of worship of believers. It is located in the right-hand corner of the central chapel, all parishioners have the opportunity to apply themselves to the relics. There are legends about their miraculous power, but you can make sure that it's true.

The Temple of Deposition in Donskoy

His story is very similar to that of his brother. The fate of the temples in Rus often echo. In 1625 the Persian Shah gave one of the four parts of Christ's Robe to the Russian Tsar and Patriarch Filaret . According to legend, it was in this garment that Christ went to the place of execution. It was given to the Kremlin Assumption Cathedral, but on the site of the great meeting a wooden church was built. The construction was completed in 1690. But already in 1713 there was a project for the construction of a stone church, and on the site of an old building a temple of the Deposition of Deposition on Donskoy was erected. The Moscow architect Y. Bukhvostov supervised the construction.

What is unique about this temple

It is more difficult to say what it looks like to others. Its very birth was already a miracle. In those days, stone architecture was banned, since this material was required for the construction (or rather, restructuring) of St. Petersburg. But nevertheless in 1716 on the Don street in Moscow there was a magnificent temple executed in the Moscow baroque style. He distinguishes five chapters from all other contemporaries, a proportional fourfold, completed by an attic. The central cross is crowned with a crown, there is no exact version of this idea. This temple did not close ever since the opening. To this day, there are services.

Reconstruction and reconstruction

The Temple of the Deposition of the Shabolovka was first decided upon in 1880. To him from the side of the refectory was added a chapel of the apostle James Alphheus, who was consecrated in 1889. The project was designed and managed by the Moscow architect A. S. Kaminsky. Under his leadership, a fence was built with a gate and a northern side-chapel was added.

The first reconstruction was required in 1923. A violent storm broke down two church chapters, but the church still does not stop its work. They were immediately restored, completely restoring the original idea of the architect. For more than 300 years, a divine service has been held here without interruption, it did not stop during the Soviet period, except that the services were more closed, and there were not many people in the church. The Temple of the Deposition in Moscow has one more peculiarity. After the Persian Shah solemnly handed over to Risa, a new festival appeared in the church calendar in honor of the "Regulations of the Robe of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Moscow". This holiday is celebrated only by the Russian Orthodox Church. As for this temple, it is the main one in the celebration.

The main values of the temple

In addition to the particle of the Lord's Robe, which is the main shrine of the temple, a very valuable icon is kept here. It is about the icon of the Mother of God of Ilinsky-Chernigov. It was presented as a gift to the church by brothers from the monastery of Chernigov. This is a unique image, which dates back to 1696. Next to the face of the Virgin, it depicts a two-headed eagle on one side, and a poetic dedication to Peter I on the other. These lines speak of the victory over the Turks and the capture of Azov. Analogues of this image of the Mother of God, as on this canvas, are nowhere else in the world.

In addition, it is here that believers can pray near the unique shrine, the Alanoyan icon "The Position of the Lord's Robe in Moscow" with a silver cross and a piece of Riza. Those who need help and healing, you should turn to the image-warehouse with a part of the relics of the apostle James the Alpha, as well as many other saints. This image is considered very strong, and if you come with a pure heart, then be sure to get the help you need. Often young children are brought here to heal or protect from disease.

Another holy icon, which should be separately noted - is the icon of the Mother of God "The Execution of the Dead." In this special world, which is clearly felt when you step over the threshold of the temple, time slows down, vanity disappears and understanding comes, for which reason we are passing our path on earth. Perhaps it is for this sake that it is worth to come to such ancient temples, there is such a soothing, soothing atmosphere that every visitor will leave, feeling some changes in themselves.

Two stunning temples, but the essence is one - praise the Lord for the fact that he transferred to the Russian land part of the garment of Christ, in which he went to Calvary. This is the greatest shrine of the Christian world. Today hundreds of believers gather in the walls of the monasteries, as hundreds of years ago they communicate with the Lord.
