Orel region: history, geography, climate

Tourist potential of Oryol region

Orel region will please the tourist by the abundance and variety of its sights. There are numerous cultural, architectural, natural and man-made objects on its territory, which will be very interesting for the traveler. The greatest number of valuable monuments of antiquity is in such settlements as Mtsensk, Bolhov, Spasskoe-Lutovinovo, Turgenevo and others.

No less interesting and the regional center of Orlovschiny - the city of Orel. It is famous for its numerous museums and monuments. The destinies of many famous cultural figures are closely associated with the pride: Turgenev, Bunin, Granovsky, Leskov, Fet. Vvedensky Monastery in Orel

Vvedensky Women's Monastery in the city of Orel is one of the most important shrines of the Orel region. It was founded in the 17th century and is located on the 1st Kursk street of the regional center.

The most beautiful building in the ensemble of the monastery - the Tikhvin Gate Church - was erected in 1770. Today the miraculous list of the Balykin Icon of the Mother of God is kept in the monastery.

In 1923, the Vvedensky Monastery was closed by the Soviet authorities, in its structures for a long time the railway workers were stationed. In the 1920s, the cathedral temple of the monastery was also demolished. Restoration of the architectural ensemble and the restoration of its interiors were taken only in 1993.

The Spasskoe-Lutovinovo Manor

The Spasskoe-Lutovinovo manor in the village of the same name is perhaps the most popular and most visited sight of the Oryol region. After all, seventeen years of his life the famous Russian writer Ivan Turgenev spent here. Works "Fathers and Sons", "Noble's Nest" were written by him in this estate.

The manor house includes a manor house, several outbuildings, a park with artificial ponds, and a temple in which Turgenev's parents were married. Since the time of the writer, everything has been preserved almost unchanged. Tourists come to Spasskoe-Lutovinovo to see Turgenev's private office, take a walk in the beautiful park and go boating.

The Castle of General Okhotnikov

In the Kolpnyansky district, in a small village of Yakovka, there is a little-known, but very interesting landmark. This is the estate of General Okhotnikov, which looks more like a real castle in its appearance.

The brick manor was built in the 19th century on land, donated by Okhotnikov to Catherine II herself. The building is a monument of architecture and history. It organically intertwines the elements of modernity and neo-Gothic. In the Soviet era, the estate housed a sugar factory, a rural club and a dining room, so, to our days, alas, there are no excellent stained glass windows and interior interiors. Nevertheless, the external appearance of the building is so impressive that it is worthwhile to come here at least once in your life.
