The image of Eugene Onegin. Analysis of "Eugene Onegin" in short

The poem "Eugene Onegin" is a real encyclopedia of the life of a Russian man of the 19th century. The novel in verse was created throughout 1823-1831. It clearly traces the stylistic features of realism. Quite laconically and accurately depicted are different strata of the population of that time period. The initial chapters were written by a young poet, and in the closing it is felt that the author is a person with a huge life experience. In this novel, AS Pushkin's growing as a creator can be traced.

History of creation

Over his brainchild the great poet worked for more than seven years. He considered the novel "Eugene Onegin" a magnificent creation. Along with "Boris Godunov," he called it a feat. The fascinating work reveals the dramatic fate of the nobility intelligentsia. All this takes place against the backdrop of the pictures of Russian life.

Work on composition began in May 1823 in Chisinau. At this time, the poet was in exile. Pushkin decided to write a realistic novel in verse, giving up romanticism as the leading creative principle.

But still the first pages still have romantic features. The original idea presupposed the existence of nine chapters. However, in connection with political events, one chapter had to be deleted: "The Journey of Onegin." Some of its fragments are present in the appendix. Researchers creativity of Alexander Sergeevich indicate that this chapter describes how Eugene Onegin becomes an observer of military settlements near the Odessa pier. After that, sharp enough judgments and remarks went. Afraid of probable harassment by the authorities, Pushkin destroyed this fragment.

The duration of the novel

The poem "Eugene Onegin" covers numerous events (from 1819 to 1825). First, it was the time of the reign of Alexander the First. Secondly, it was the development of Russian society. Thirdly, the period from the foreign campaigns of the Russian army to the Decembrist uprising.

The time of action and the creation of the novel almost coincide. After all, in general, it reflected the important events of the first quarter of the 19th century.

Like the poem of Lord Byron called "Don Juan" created his novel A. Pushkin. "Eugene Onegin," whose verses seem to gather in motley chapters, are rightfully considered the best literary creation of the 19th century.

The author emphasizes that the main feature of the work is that each chapter can be the last one or have a continuation. Since its structure seems to be open in time.

Roman is not for nothing called an encyclopedia of his time. From the text you can find out about the tastes and interests of people, their preferences in clothes, about fashion, and about values. In "Eugene Onegin" literally the whole of Russian life is described.

Publications

The poem was published gradually, in separate editions, each of which included one chapter. The most vivid passages were published in almanacs and magazines. Every chapter was awaited with great impatience, it was perceived as a great event in Russian literature. The very first chapter was published in 1825. Full edition in one volume readers could buy since 1833. Shortly before the death of Pushkin (in January 1837) the printing house I. Glazunov released a novel in mini format.

It was planned to sell 5,000 copies during the year (five rubles per book). However, after the death of the poet, the entire circulation was sold out in a week.

In 1988, there was a circulation of 15,000 copies (the publishing house "Book").

Plot

The poem opens with complaints of a young nobleman about the illness of his uncle. The character of Eugene Onegin already manifests itself here. He has to come to Petersburg to say goodbye to the sick. The first chapter tells about the origin, family and life of the protagonist before receiving the sad news.

Secular entertainment and amorous intrigues filled the life of a young man in Petersburg. But all this bothers him. When Eugene arrives to his uncle in the village, he learns that the relative has already died. The young man becomes his only heir.

In a deep depression falls Eugene Onegin (an analysis of his image is in a separate section). He begins to be friends with his neighbor Lensky, which is the complete opposite of Onegin. Vladimir is an ardent and passionate romantic poet who is in love with Olga Larin. Eugene is very surprised at the choice of a friend, hinting that he would choose Tatyana. The latter falls in love with Onegin and writes him a frank letter with confessions of love. However, the cold nobleman rejects it.

Onegin is at a dinner with the Larins. From boredom, he begins to take care of Olga, forcing a friend to be jealous. Lensky summons him to a duel. The duel ends with the death of Vladimir, and Eugene leaves the village.

The next meeting with Tatyana who fell in love with him happens three years later. Now she is an important socialite, the wife of the general. Onegin falls in love with her, but attempts to achieve the girl's disposition end in failure. Now she refuses him, although she does not hide that she still loves. But loyalty and family for her are beyond feelings.

"Eugene Onegin". An analysis of Tatyana's letter

A young provincial girl, in a letter to Onegin, confesses to her feelings that have flared up in her. In the 19th century, it was not customary for the young ladies to be the first to explain themselves in love. However, Tatiana consciously oversteps through moral prohibitions. This hurts her pride, she torments herself with doubts, her conflicting feelings overwhelm her. Despite all this, the girl acts decisively. The letter shows her subtle and romantic nature. It's not at all surprising that Tatiana feels such fervent feelings. The girl loved French novels from her childhood. She always dreamed of finding her hero so that emotions could be thrown out. The choice for Onegin fell not accidentally. He seemed special to her, quite unlike other villagers. He was mysterious and mysterious for her. It was about this hero Tatyana dreamed. She believed that Eugene would certainly understand and love her. She is very worried about the lines written and ashamed of them. Suddenly entered nurse notices the blush on the girl's face, but considers it a sign of health. Tatyana gives the letter and in fear awaits the result.

Characteristics of the main character

The image of Eugene Onegin is very complex and contradictory. This is a young landlord who, in his childhood, did not receive proper attention and proper education. He grew up without a mother, deprived of the necessary caresses and warmth. Father did not care about his son. He instructed his tutors. Therefore Onegin became a selfish person. He was worried only by his own desires, and the sufferings of other people were absolutely uninteresting. The image of Eugene Onegin impresses with his coolness. He can hurt almost any person. Eugene can greatly offend, not noticing at the same time that he committed a bad deed. Unfortunately, all the good and beautiful that was hidden deep in his soul, and remained undeveloped. Eugene's whole life is a complete laziness and boredom. Saturated with monotonous pleasures, he sees nothing joyous in life.

The ill-considered hero

The image of Eugene Onegin was not invented. He is a typical young man of the time. Such young men differ from representatives of the ruling class. They are more honorable, more conscientious and more intelligent. Such people are eternally unhappy with themselves, with their social structure and their personal environment. Onegin has high views and demands for life. Having met Lensky, who graduated from the best university in Germany, he can argue with him on any topic. He appreciates friendship with Vladimir. In relation to Tatiana and Lensky, such a trait as kindness is revealed.

By the end of the novel, the image of Eugene Onegin is transformed. We already see a sincere man in love. He's different. But his love was too late. Tatiana though feels feelings, to betray her husband is not ready. Now Eugene understands how stupid he was before. He regrets that he missed such a girl and possible happiness. But awareness comes too late, nothing can be changed.

The poem by Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin is one of the best creations of the 19th century. The poet worked on his brainchild for seven years. The work can be called a socio-psychological novel in verse form. It is written in a simple and easy language. The author pays much attention to depicting the characters and emotional experiences of his characters: Onegin, Lensky, Tatiana, Olga, mother of girls, nannies and others.
