The deepest metro station. Where's she

The deepest metro station ... Have you ever been to it?

Every modern person, and even more so, someone who has been fortunate enough to live in a big city, probably enjoys using such convenient transport as the metro. If you study this topic in more detail, it literally becomes immediately clear that the stations are very different, just like wagons.

Sometimes they, for example, in Moscow, in St. Petersburg or in Kiev, resemble a real work of art, and at times, as in, say, Berlin, are comfortable and comfortable trains, moving lightly across boring and mediocre corridors.

Section 1. The first deepest metro station . Where and how it appeared

Initially, the very first and deepest metro station was conceived and designed in the UK.

In the courtyard stood in 1863, and the famous engineer of the time, C. Pierson scrupulously worked on the drawings for a new vehicle, which is necessary in an ever-growing city. In the success of very few people believed, and in order to convince the municipality and officially open the first station, it took more than 20 years. At that time, the work was mainly carried out only in trenches of an open type, and only a little later the architects decided to build underground stations, although it should be noted that their depth was by today's standards very small.

The local population met with some apprehension what was going on. On the rails, until 1906, trains traveled, they created a lot of noise and smoke, so the housing near the stations was sold poorly and was equated almost to the barracks.

It was necessary to correct the situation urgently, the mayor's office made the only correct decision, and within six years the entire transport staff was gradually updated, and it was completely made up of electric trains.

By the way, I note that after the London in the 19th century the metro did not appear at all in metropolitan areas, as it might seem at first glance, but in provincial towns of that time: Budapest, Glasgow and Athens.

Section 2. The deepest metro station . Who is on the list of modern record-breakers

Immediately I would like to warn that this is a difficult question, and to determine the absolute record, most likely, it is not possible at all.

Why? The thing is that at first glance the honorary title "The deepest subway station in the world" can be given to "Arsenalnoye", which is located in Kiev. Its depth is impressive and is about 105 meters. However, everyone knows that this is a city built on hills. How then to measure its depth of station? Concerning sea level? Or still taking into account the surface of the earth?

Disputes continue to this day.

In addition to "Arsenal" to the list of leaders, I would include:

  • "Admiralteyskaya" in the northern capital, the construction of which is still ongoing, but the planned depth is already announced - 102 meters.
  • Washington Park (Portland, USA). The object is also built in a terrain with a fairly uneven landscape in height.
  • "Komendantsky Prospekt", again St. Petersburg. 78 m.
  • "Chernishevsky" (Peter) - 74 m.
  • 90-meter "Victory Park" in Moscow, although it, like the Kiev "Arsenalnaya", is built under a hill.
  • Puhung in Pyongyang (North Korea). This place also performs the function of refuge, which can be used by the inhabitants of the city in the event of a nuclear attack.

Section 3. The deepest metro station in Moscow

Initially, the opening of the Park Pobedy station was planned in 2000, but due to a lack of funding, it solemnly accepted its first visitors only in 2005.

The hall is decorated in two styles, dedicated to two significant events: the Patriotic War of 1812 and the Second World War.

In the western end of the hall the hall is decorated with a huge and majestic panel, but the eastern one, narrating about the events of 1941-1945, is represented by black-gray marble.

Numerous lamps that illuminate the room are hidden by the cornice and this further creates a feeling of intimacy and solemnity.

Under the decision of the Government of Moscow, in 2013 in the western part of the hall the construction of the second exit will begin.
