The centuries-old history of crochet

Nobody knows to this day where the story of crochet began. One can only say: needlework is - very ancient. The evidence of this is the finds of archaeologists in the Egyptian tombs. Samples of knitting, unfortunately, almost did not survive to this day, but only left traces of their existence. For example, a picture was found on the wall of a tomb, on which a woman wears knitted socks. The image is about 4 thousand years old!

In another tomb was found a child's sock, and a very interesting form - his thumb was tied separately. This means that even then, in the III-IV century. N. E., Socks knitted for the convenience of wearing them with sandals. And this shoe, as you know, passed a strap between the fingers, like the modern "Vietnamese".

The history of crochet allows you to touch it in specialized museums around the world. There you can see multi-colored silk dresses, decorative belts, socks and stockings, jackets, fancy lace and much more. And the age of some things is very impressive. One of them is several centuries old, and another is several thousand years old.

In Europe, the history of crochet began around the 9th century. It is believed that it was born thanks to the Copts - Egyptian Christians. These missionaries, when visiting Europe, took knitted things with them, which attracted the attention of local residents. Knitted things then could afford exceptionally rich people. For example, the cost of a pair of silk stockings equaled the annual earnings of the royal shoemaker. Only in the XV-XVI centuries the production of knitted goods was put on stream. Huge shops for manufacturing stockings, socks, jackets, hats were created. And it should be noted that only men were employed in their work. A little later, women began to study this trade.

However, despite the factory production of knitwear, crochet did not give up their positions either. History shows that self-made work has always been much appreciated. Although crocheting required more time and more effort, things made in this way turned out to be unique, unrepeatable. Especially since a machine that can imitate it has not been invented yet.

Until now, it remains a mystery how the history of crochet in Russia began. One thing is known that they practiced this kind of needlework here a very long time, before the XI century. Knitted mostly villagers. To do this, they used yarn from sheep's wool and made warm clothes: socks, stockings, sweaters, mittens, etc.

For a long time, the technology of crochet was not fixed anywhere. Each people had their own secrets and methods. And only in 1824 in the Dutch magazine "Penelope" for the first time were presented ways to perform drawings and patterns. Thus, crochet was standardized. After, at the end of the XIX century, two notation systems were created: American and British. They are used today.

Crochet has not lost its relevance today. In this way, not only are wardrobe items created, but also the home interior is decorated. Modern masters crochet napkins, blankets, lampshades, tablecloths. Even mobile phones and other gadgets such craftsmen manage to "dress" in exclusive cases.

No less popular is knitting for children. Hook it turns out to create especially lovely lace bonnets and booties, dresses and blouses. On the spokes of this you can not connect, and even more so these products can not be bought in stores. Also knitting for children is good because it does not require a lot of thread and does not take a lot of time.
