Once upon a time there was a fish sazan. And it was so delicious that people decided to adapt it for home breeding. So by the method of artificial selection a new breed of fish was created, which was given the Greek name carp, which means the fruit. Later the carp sprouted, on the paws of birds their eggs were moved from one fresh water body to another until this fish settled almost throughout Eurasia, capturing even part of North Africa. Fish is quite large, often reaches a mass of several tens of kilograms. What was the biggest carp in antiquity, we do not know. Our ancestors were not up to weighing the caught fish, they just ate it. Obviously, nothing surprising was caught, otherwise the unusual carp would have been fixed in the annals.

It is clear that the largest carp should be sown somewhere in the south: there it grows faster, there is plenty of food, and you do not need to fall asleep during the winter. Just eat and grow to health! So it turned out really.

In Europe, the largest carp was caught in the south of France. Two local residents went fishing for the weekend, and now they were fishing: the mass of the giant was forty-three kilograms, the second was a little less - thirty-eight kilograms! But this is not the limit. According to eyewitnesses, in the last century in the south of the European part of the Russian Empire they were able to catch carp of much larger sizes. The largest carp, caught in the vicinity of Taganrog, weighed four poods and ten pounds. It's almost seventy kilograms!

It is interesting that modern European young ladies in the fishing business almost do not lag behind men. The largest carp, which was caught by the Dutch Lisette Beunderes at the end of last year, weighed as much as thirty-eight kilograms. This carp was mirrored and was also found in France.

Now we will move from the European continent to Asia. In July 2007, a Thai fisherman named Kik fished a carp with a weight of twenty stone from a local pond. In translation for the metric system, it will be one hundred and twenty seven kilograms! Yes, it is, perhaps, really the biggest carp in the world. Today.

This carp was caught on a self-made fishing rod, and to pose with a catch in front of the camera, it was necessary to attract another person, since Kik himself could not hold the heavy fish.

According to geneticists who tracked the carp's ancestry, his homeland is located in South-East Asia. After it spread throughout the continent, several breeds were derived, quite different from the original. For example, mirror carp, which is almost devoid of scales. Or Japanese ornamental carp, the breeding of which began in the middle of the first millennium BC. It is multi-colored and has a large number of rocks.

But all the "modifications" do not reach the size of a giant from Southeast Asia. And even there carp of this size, most likely, are infrequent. The Thai fisherman seemed to be surprised when he learned that the fish he caught was the biggest carp. Photo and video, where the joy of the fisherman is fixed, clearly show that he is dumbfounded and amazed no less than the spectators. Perhaps in the future it will be possible to pull out of the Thai waters and a larger giant. At least, everything has to do with this: the southern climate, the abundance of food for fish.
