Summary "One Hundred Years of Solitude": almost all the events that are described in the novel take place in a town called Macondo (fictional city). But for all the unreality of the city, the whole story is filled with quite real events that took place in Colombia. The town was founded by Buendía José Arcadio, who was a single-minded, impulsive and strong-willed man, a leader by his nature. He was keenly interested in the secrets of the universe, which were opened to him by visiting Gypsies, among whom Melkiaades is particularly distinguished. Over time, the city begins to grow, and the Colombian government shows interest in the settlement and sends a new mayor. Buendía José Arcadio entices the sent Alcádos to his side, thus leaving the city in control.

The country is struck by the civil war, which involves the population of Macondo. Son of José Arcadio - Colonel Buendia Aureliano - collects volunteers in the city and goes with them to fight with the country's dominant conservative regime. While the Colonel is actively involved in the war, his nephew (also Arcadio, like the founder of the city) takes the reins in his own hands. But at the same time he becomes quite a brutal dictator. So cruel that eight months later, when the city is captured by conservatives, he will be shot without any doubt and regret.

The war drags on for several decades, fading and flashing again. The colonel, who is tired of the eternal state of war, decides to conclude a peace treaty with the adversaries. After signing the "world", he returns to his native "penates", where at the same time comes a banana company with a large number of foreigners and migrants. The city is finally beginning to flourish, and the new ruler Aureliano II begins to richer, growing livestock. Cattle just swiftly, even magically multiplies, as the author hints, thanks to the connection of the ruler with his mistress. Some time later, there is a working strike, the army shoots strikers and, immersing the bodies in the cars, throws them into the sea abyss. This event was called a banana slaughter.

After the strike over the city, a prolonged rain begins, lasting almost five years. During this time, the penultimate representative of the genus Buendia, Aurieliano Babylonia, is born. At the end of the rain, at the age of one hundred and twenty years, the wife of the founder of the city, Ursula, dies. After that, the city becomes abandoned. The cattle are not born, the buildings are destroyed and simply overgrown.

Babylonia remains alone, studying the parchments left by Melkiaes, but then casts them on time because of the novel with his aunt. At birth, she dies, and a son born with a pony tail is eaten by ants. Aurieliano deciphers parchments, and a tornado comes to the city. When the decoding ends, the city disappears from the face of the earth.
