State symbols of Panama. Flag and its history

Panama, connecting North and South America, is known for its eponymous channel, which connects the Pacific with the Atlantic and is an engineering masterpiece of the early twentieth century. Officially, the flag was approved in December 1903 after the country gained independence from Colombia. In Panama, the flag has a rectangular shape, and the proportions are 2: 3. The canvas is divided into 4 equal parts, it depicts the stars.

The question is, how many stars on the flag of Panama and what do the rectangles symbolize? The lower blue rectangle represents the waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean that bathe Panama. The upper white rectangle, on which the five-pointed star of blue is depicted, symbolizes the world. A similar white rectangle is located at the bottom, and in the upper - a red rectangle. Red color embodies the memory of how many patriots gave their lives for the sovereignty of Panama.

The flag of the country has only 2 stars, which symbolize the inviolability of law, power (the red star) and purity of the thoughts of the people of Panama (blue star).

History of the flag

The Constituent Assembly approved the present national symbol of Panama. In 1925 the decision was fixed at the legislative level. Every year Flag Day is celebrated very solemnly. He is a holiday of pride and glory of the nation of Panama. The flag was not always divided into rectangles. In 1823, he had 13 bands: 6 were yellow, and 7 - red.
