Simple repair of the garage roof

The repair of the roof of the garage, as a rule, is based on the technology of repairing the soft roof. There is no need to have any special equipment and special skills.

Repair of the garage roof should begin with the preparation of the base. If it is current repair, then the roof can simply be patched or covered with old layers with 1-2 layers of new material in the place of the defect.

Before patching it is necessary to eliminate (cut down) all the defects. Then the surface is rid of debris and poured with bituminous mastic. Then lay a layer of roofing material, the size of which should be greater than the defective area over which repairs are carried out. The edges must be greased with bituminous mastic. However, this method often does not bring the desired result.

Another method of repairing the roof is that the old layers are not removed, and two layers are deposited over the old coating. This leads to an increase in the load on the roof, which must also be taken into account. Repair of the garage roof in this way begins with the fact that the old cover is cleared of debris. It must be remembered that this method is not used if the roof contains more than eight layers. Installation of new layers is carried out in the usual way.

But it happens that the roof is in a very worn condition. In this case, the garage roof is overhauled, which consists of the following steps: removal of all old layers, repair of the base, application of a waterproof coating, if necessary laying insulation, screed, laying roofing material, applying a protective layer.

Major repairs of the roofing of buildings are carried out using the following means: gas burner, roofing material (roofing material), knife for cutting roofing material, bitumen mastic or sealant, cement, insulation, broom. To heat the material, it is recommended to use a gas burner, not a blowtorch, since the time for heating the roofing material in this case is significantly reduced.

When removing the old coating, use both special equipment (a machine for removing the old layer) and an ordinary ax, in which the wooden handle is replaced with a long metal handle. The base of the roof is cleaned of debris and inspected for defects. If there is no major damage, then there is no need for a screed made of cement. If it is produced, it is sometimes preceded by a roof covering with a heater (foam, gravel, etc.). Within a few hours after laying the cement, the surface is covered with a thin layer of bitumen, which prevents evaporation of moisture.

The main stage is actually the laying of the roofing material, which is made after the cementing of the cement. It is desirable to use materials from fiberglass, which has a longer life, in contrast to materials based on cardboard. Laying is done starting from the bottom of the roof and rising higher. All rows of the material are laid with an overlap of more than 10 cm. The joints must be treated with bituminous mastic. Next, the next layer is laid, the seams of the first and second layers must not coincide.

The last stage is the application of a protective layer of bitumen mastic, which is sprinkled with stone crumb and rolled by a roller. This completes the repair of the garage roof. This is a simple process, which, as a rule, is performed by two people.
