Self-education is hard work on yourself

A great role in the formation of the personality is played, of course, by the family, the environment, and the school. However, self-education is also of great importance. This in a certain life period is almost the only way to make adjustments to the character of a person. If the child adopts the manner of behavior before the age of four, learns social skills in adults, then the junior schoolboy and, especially, the teenager becomes much more resistant to any side influences. For young people, self-education is an exceptional means of personal development. How is it realized and how to direct the young soul into the "right direction"?

Do not think that self-education - this is some special special occupations that take a lot of time and effort. No, most often it occurs gradually, as if invisibly. This is not only a deliberate volitional effort of a person who wants, for example, to develop attention, memory, become more tempered or gain physical strength. Of course, sports, training, self-learning are ways to work on yourself.

However, self-education is also reading books, and internal dialogues (often in the form of diaries or blogs), and communication with intelligent people who can teach something good. With values, people are not born. Self-education of a person is imperceptibly carried out both when viewing quality content films, and when formulating and saying, and then defending one's point of view - for example, within the framework of discussions and debates. For each of us "to become better" means completely different. For one, it is to develop muscles, endurance, physical strength, speed. For another - to learn to be kinder and more tolerant. For the third, historical and heroic examples of self-education are of the greatest importance. First of all - volitional hardening. Examples are Alexei Meresyev or Nikolai Ostrovsky. For many, the model of great will is Napoleon Bonaparte. For others - Mikhail Lomonosov, like other outstanding self-taught. But for Leo Tolstoy or Anton Chekhov, self-education consisted in the development of a genuine humanism - sympathy, tact, participation. It is no accident that so much attention is paid to moral issues in their works. Diaries and letters clearly show the inner workings of writers over themselves. The struggle against vice - ludomania or enthusiasm for gambling - was described also by FM Dostoyevsky, and the prototype of the hero was the author himself.

It is believed that in addition to introspection and self-suggestion, both self-training and the method of empathy are excellent ways of personal education, which is to put yourself in another person's place, imagine what you would feel or think in such a situation. An important element is encouragement. For example, if you succeeded in fulfilling the intended goal, to achieve the goal (which must necessarily be formulated, pronounced aloud), then you can make yourself a small gift. Self-criticism brings the desired fruits far from everyone, although without it it is difficult to identify shortcomings that a person considers necessary to work. At the same time, it should not go into self-flagellation, which is a deviation from normal behavior.
