When in 1974 the Izhmash concern released a new original product intended for the civil market, many were skeptical about it. This hunting carbine, "Saiga", was developed on the basis of the already famous Kalashnikov assault rifle. Initially it was with a rifled barrel, performed in the caliber of 5.6x39. This new weapon was called "Saiga-5,6".

Prehistory

But time passed, and with the onset of the infamous nineties the first batch of carbines for the cartridge 7.62x39 was launched. From this moment the ascent to the glory of this weapon began. The 7.62x39 cartridge, or rather its metric analogue, was already used in the PKK machine gun, in the AK-74 and AKM automatic rifles, as well as in the combat carbines of the SCS, and so on.

The popularity of "Saiga" began to grow exponentially. And an important role in this was played by the correct course of the marketers of Izhmash, who, having decided to expand the lineup, ventured to start production of several modifications at once. In addition, a big role in the acquisition of such popularity was played by the fact that many began to label this weapon as "like" Kalash. " And since the AKC did not need advertising, this comparison was to the liking of users.

Reasons for popularity

As a result, modifications of the Saiga carbine, which differed from each other as types of stock or barrel lengths, as well as variants of the performance as a whole and caliber of cartridges, began to appear one by one after another. In addition to rifling, since 1993 in Izhevsk was established production and smooth-bore rifles, members of the family "Saiga". The first models were caliber 410, or 10.4 millimeters. Then, modifications were developed for other, more powerful and popular in our country cartridges for smooth-bore twenties, such as 20/70 or 20/76 "Magnum".

The popularity of the Saiga carbine grew, and, accordingly, the number of copies produced increased. It is easy to understand the reasons for such a quick recognition of this weapon: in fact, Kalashnikov assault rifles were already established for a long time, and most of the details and mechanisms of the Saiga in different modifications were borrowed from AK. For "Izhmash" at that time, it was the only way out, which allowed the concern not to go bankrupt. But later it was not just about the factory being able to stay afloat. This carbine brought the company to a whole new level.

Twelfth caliber

Of course, designers have created a model for the most popular cartridge used for smoothbore weapons. It was a Saiga-12K gun. Today, without a doubt, this weapon of the twelfth caliber in its different designs is more popular than other semi-automatic shotguns of domestic production from the user.

And one of the most interesting of his performances was "Saiga-12K Tactics", which was commissioned by "Izhmash" to produce the concern "Legion" - one of the branches of the arms factory.

The letter "K" denoted a truncated trunk in comparison with the base models, as well as a folding butt, the same as in the modification "C". According to the Russian law, short versions of firearms should be fired only if their total length is not less than eight hundred and ten millimeters. Therefore, the carbine "Saiga-12K" in all versions is equipped with a blocker, not allowing a shot with a folded butt. That is, we need to put the weapon into a combat position, and then release the cartridge.

Modifications

The first Saiga-12 guns appeared in the second half of the nineties of the twentieth century. Basic models were produced with both wooden butt and fore-end, and with plastic ones. Automation

Carabiner "Saiga-12K Tactics" works similarly to AK. Not only its automatics, but also its design and layout are similar to the Kalashnikov assault rifle. During the shot, the propellant gases that follow the charge through the stem channel are partially diverted to the gas outlet tube through the hole located at the top of the barrel. They act on the piston, which is rigidly connected to the gate frame and is practically one with it. After the piston moves backward, the latter, under the pressure of the propellant gases, itself moves in the same direction.

At the time of the shot, the bolt is locked, and after the frame is pulled back, causing it to rotate along the groove, along which the corresponding protrusions move, it exits the clutch with the barrel. This combat component, revolving around its axis, comes out from the stops of the receiver right in front of the chamber. After that the full rollback of the whole group takes place. Then, with the help of the extractor, the shot sleeve is extracted with a shutter and thrown out through the reflector into the window on the right side along the receiver.

How to shoot

Carabiner "Saiga-12K Tactics", the price of which depends on the configuration, is not equipped with the ability to conduct the next fire. This is the only one in this aspect of the Kalashnikov assault rifle. "Saiga-12K Tactics" shoots as follows: the shutter frame, cocking the trigger, stops, hitting the rear on the receiver. After that, the return spring pushes it into its original position. In the direction of the breech block in the trunk, a new bullet is extracted and sent from the magazine to the chamber by a shutter frame. At the end point, it turns, and its protrusions at the same time go behind the fighting stops. As a result, the chamber is locked. For the next shot, the arrow will simply need to be released, and then click on the hook again.

"Saiga-12K" (040th execution)

This weapon is equipped with a folding frame butt and adjustable cheek. In addition, it has a ventilated forearm. And the magazine receiver is made the same as on the model "Saiga-12K 030". An adjustable sectoral target with an automatic sight is arranged near the muzzle, on which there is also a compensator-flame arrestor.

According to experts, "Saiga-12K", the price for which is more than democratic, has not a very high quality of manufacturing. At the same time, such a modification as 040 is considered a powerful and reliable weapon that works well with a wide range of inexpensive cartridges.

Tuning

"Saiga 12K", as a rule, "brought" by installing a collimator sight on it, as well as bringing ergonomics to the individual parameters of the user. The most problematic in aesthetic and technical aspects is the tuning of the "Saiga" models with inconsistent butts of the hunting type.

Tuning the same "Saiga-12K" with a folding frame butt equipped with an original muzzle compensator-brake, as well as a vented fore-end.
