What sorts of potatoes do not exist! Choosing the right kind is very important, because this will determine the success of growing such a valuable vegetable. Many farmers are considered the best potato varieties Kolobok, Lorch, Zhuravinka.

The Zhuravinka potato is known for less than two decades. But it has already become widespread among farmers due to its excellent taste and good yield. Potato variety Zhuravinka is appreciated by cooks and is present in the kitchen of many houses. The variety was bred in Belarus, but gained popularity in many countries of the world.

Potato Jug: a description of the variety

The variety was obtained after the crossing of the Polish Cze and the Dutch Sante. It is listed in the State Register of the Republic of Belarus in 2004.

It is zoned for the Volga region, the Central and North-Western regions of Russia.

The variety has medium or late ripeness. Tubers are medium in size, with a red skin. One bush can give up to 18 potatoes.

Description of the potato variety Zhuravinka refers it to varieties with high taste qualities. It is characterized by an average intensity of growth.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The pros of the sort of potato Zhuravinka can be called:

  • Resistance of the potato to viruses, cancer, scab and other diseases;
  • Developed root structures;
  • Resistance to low temperatures up to 7 degrees and high to 38 degrees;
  • Undemanding care;
  • Increased yield;
  • Excellent sweetish taste;
  • Good brewability when cooking.

Minuses are:

  • Intolerance to drought;
  • Appearance of late blight in case of waterlogging.

These are the main characteristics of the variety of the Zhuravinka potatoes.

Soil preparation

Any farmer wants to have good potato harvests. Specialists call three laws of soil fertility:

  1. The first law. The nutrient medium of the soil is provided by millions of bacteria, fungi and other living organisms living in the earth. It is these living organisms that ensure the fertility of the soil, which, in turn, guarantees an excellent harvest.
  2. Second law. The main food of plants is carbon dioxide. In the earth it is formed as a result of the vital activity of microorganisms. To save carbon dioxide in the soil, do not get involved in digging and plowing.
  3. The Third Law. Microorganisms live in the upper soil structures. The digging of soil with a shovel dissipates all the carbon dioxide from the soil, the bacteria from the inside get out and die. On the contrary, the bacteria living from above are below and also die.

To achieve high yields, it is worth remembering the beneficial effects of humus. In soil where there is a lot of humus, a large number of necessary bacteria live. All plants live at the expense of the decomposition products of these microorganisms.

After winter, the soil is poor in bacteria and humus, the right amount is at the end of June. How to prepare the soil in order to receive a high yield?

The farmer's actions should be directed at increasing the volume of soil microorganisms. For this, do not dig in the usual sense.

The digging is carried out as follows.

On the perimeter of the site, a furrow is drilled to plant the potatoes and fill it with sliced grass, leaves and other organic matter. Then sprinkle with chopped brown coal.

The rest of the soil loosens up to 15 cm in pitch and deeper.

Fertilize plants in the process of planting. In the holes fall asleep 500-700 grams of manure or compost.

Preparation of tubers for planting

Potatoes for planting are selected from autumn, harvesting. Prepare tubers, which weigh from 30 to 100 grams.

Planting tubers hold 10 days in the light to green. As a result, solanine appears in the tubers, because of which potatoes are unsuitable for consumption, but the substance perfectly protects the tubers from dangerous organisms and mice.

Spring tubers for planting are kept in the light for 30-50 days. The temperature in the first week should be 16-18 degrees, then it gradually decreases and reaches 4-6 degrees before planting. This procedure, called vernalization, will temper the tubers.

Vernalization helps to shorten the maturity of potatoes, thereby reducing the risk of crop failure when autumn frosts occur.

Landing

For each potato bush, a pad of 45-50 cm width is required. The best planting pattern is in the form of a triangle. Stages of planting potatoes:

  • The plot is loosened with pitchforks;
  • Level with rakes;
  • Perform markup;
  • Bring in manure;
  • Plant tubers.

All works are performed in one day.

Description of the variety of seed potatoes Zhuravinka offers such a process of planting potatoes:

  1. Tighten the rope, on the sides of which make grooves in 10 cm.
  2. The bottom of the grooves is covered with straw.
  3. The tubers, prepared for planting, are placed in the order of the chessboard, at intervals of 30 cm.
  4. Each tuber is sprinkled with a mixture of ash and humus.
  5. Furrows fall asleep.
  6. The following pegs are driven in at a distance of 140 cm from the first groove.

The first shoots hibernate, closing completely. The hills are repeated until spring frosts are possible.

Then, ridges and grooves are formed between the rows.

The potato variety Zhuravinka does not tolerate a drought. How to help the plant not suffer from a lack of moisture?

For this, experienced farmers give such advice:

  • Plant the potatoes as early as possible, when the soil temperature reached 6-7 degrees at a depth of 10 cm;
  • Landing should be carried out to a depth of 10-12 cm;
  • Ais interchange to 55-60 cm;
  • Water the bushes in the inter-row.

Hilling of bushes

While cultivating potatoes, it should be remembered that its roots grow in the upper layers of the earth. Roots are growing more in width than in depth. At the bushed bushes, the roots in light soil occupy the largest area in the aisles. Under the roots appear even, neat potatoes.

In heavy soil potato roots grow down. Tubers are uneven, with a lot of growths, small in size.

On heavy soils, hilling is mandatory. In areas where rains are frequent, it is better to put them in the ridges, as they warm themselves faster, oxygenate and protect potatoes from waterlogging.

With the help of holes and grooves it is easier to use rainwater, and it is also easier and more convenient to hump.

When hilling it is important to understand in which climatic zone potatoes are grown. In northern territories, the plant is planted 5-7 times a season, and in the southern one it takes 1-2 hills to grow a similar crop.

The description of the variety of the Zhuravinka potato and the farmers' comments on it give recommendations on the completion of hilling after watering or rain has passed.

It is important to carry out these works also during the formation of buds. At this time it is important to bite and move the stems in different directions. This will provide the plant with an influx of sunlight.

After hilling it is necessary to feed the bushes, and the rows between rows should be covered.

Feeding

Nutrient solutions are introduced "under the count". A sharp stick needs to be pressed in the soil between the bushes hole up to 20 cm deep, fertilizers are poured into it. Top dressing is performed before hilling.

This method will help to burn the roots of the plant. Fertilizer will remain in the ground, and the plant will use it if necessary.

As a fertilizer well suited bird droppings. It contains phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen. And if you add wood ash, the benefits will only increase.

It is good to feed silt from a lake or river.

Potato tops are sprayed with dissolved copper sulfate and ammonium nitrate in the morning or evening.

Diseases and parasites

Variety of potatoes Zhuravinka is susceptible to many parasites and diseases. The most dangerous of them are:

  • Colorado beetle;
  • Wireworm;
  • nematode;
  • aphid.

Diseases of the Bully:

  • Late blight;
  • scab;
  • Dry and wet rot;
  • Rhizoctonia.

Unfortunately, there are no effective ways to get rid of diseases and pests. The use of chemicals can worsen the nutritional quality of potatoes, and also make a vegetable dangerous to human health.

For this reason, it is important to conduct timely preventive maintenance, which will help protect potatoes from diseases and parasites.

One of the preventive measures is to change the planting site. Pests have the property of accumulating in the soil if the potatoes grow in one place. Therefore, when growing, it is important to observe the principles of crop rotation and plant potatoes in the previous place no earlier than in 4 years.

Reviews of farmers

Reviews about the variety and characteristics of the potato Zhuravinka are the best. Farmers that grow this variety, notice the excellent taste characteristics of potatoes and excellent digestibility. Prepare puree from this potato is very simple.

In addition, the variety is distinguished by excellent yield and long cure with minimal effort in caring for bushes.
