Perfectionist: who is this?

Perfectionist: the meaning of the term

Some people ask: perfectionist - who is this? To do this, it is necessary to define one more concept: perfectionism (perfection - perfection) is the sharpened striving for human perfection in all of its actions and behavior, created by upbringing and the environment. Accordingly, a perfectionist is a person who is characterized by perfectionism. He is convinced of the possibility and necessity of achieving perfection first of all in relation to himself. Many psychologists, however, believe that perfectionism is not at all a virtue, but a serious personal problem that forms an underestimated self-esteem of the individual, and also negatively affects the results of his activities. A perfectionist does not see the "golden mean", he has only two extremes: the worst and the best is his ideal. He does not see a gray color, for him there is only black and white. For him there is only an "ideal" and "not an ideal", and "everything is ideal" is not only an ideal. In other words, he strives to do everything perfectly, better than others, or do nothing at all, and he is completely sure of it. He considers the request for help with weakness.

Perfectionist - who is this?

This is the one who will rather want to achieve nothing, than to achieve something not fully. The one whose thoughts set unrealistic goals for him. Perfectionists are sensitive to public opinion. Any criticism touches them. Perfectionists try to hide their shortcomings from others. They are afraid to expose their weaknesses. Therefore, they do everything that depends on them in order to become perfect. Failure or failure shows them that they can not improve themselves. As a consequence, they feel useless, and their self-esteem falls.

How to determine to what extent the word "perfectionist" applies to you? Who is this and how can you identify it?

1) You are very responsible, afraid of making a mistake, you are very attentive to details.

2) You strive to do everything as best as possible, ideally.

3) You spend too much time improving something.

4) You establish absolute ideals, while all the rest is unacceptable for you.

5) You are the most severe critic for yourself.

6) You react painfully to criticism of others.

7) You always represent the ultimate goal, the intermediate stages do not matter to you.

And what if perfectionism is not always a vice? Imagine what the world would be without the great works of world literature, painting, architecture, without great and wonderful composers? Let's take a look at this from a different point of view. Perfectionist - who is this? He is a man of creativity, creator, creator. The creator simply has to be a perfectionist, otherwise the writer who creates his work can give up and say, writing on the first attempt: "it will come off that way" or "and so it is normal". Could we really have read Faust, The Cathedral of Our Lady of Paris, if Goethe and Hugo were not perfectionists? Would we be able to contemplate the Mona Lisa and now, if Da Vinci decided not to perfect the image of the smile of the aforementioned lady?

We would not have heard the "Seasons" if Vivaldi, when studying violin, said: "I will not work out the party, and so it's normal." Thus, perfectionism is good only in some areas of our life, which really require an ideal to which one should strive. However, in an ordinary life it is very difficult to achieve an ideal, for the society in which we live is far from ideal. So is it worth it to feed yourself with meaningless illusions? Do you just have to live and enjoy every little thing?
