The Museum of Art (Sochi) is one of the centers of the city's culture. Forty years, he opens the doors for citizens and visitors of the city, inviting to admire canvases and sculptures of famous masters.

The Sochi Art Museum officially opened in 1988 with this status. The total area of museum halls is 2605 square meters, expositions are represented on an area of 1537 square meters. Meters. The chronology of the collection begins with a deep antiquity (1st century BC), in this category the most valuable exhibits are samples of weapons from silver.

The collection of ancient Russian icons of the period of the 17th-20th centuries and the extensive exposition of paintings, objects of everyday life from the 19th century to the present day evoke interest. The number of visitors per year is about 100 thousand sightseers. Currently, three permanent exhibitions operate in the museum halls, up to 10 thematic expositions are being replaced during the year.

  • Russian art. The exhibition covers the period of 19-21 centuries, where art paintings by famous artists such as Polenov, Shishkin, Petrov-Vodkin, Aivazovsky and others are presented.
  • Silver of antiquity, cold steel. The exposition is made up of archaeological finds seized during excavations in the upper reaches of the Mzymta river, which flows in the Adler district. At the stands are exhibited unique exhibits dating back to the 3rd century BC. The most valuable are considered silver bowls with a floral pattern. They were found with large damages, restoration work was carried out together with Greek colleagues. Of equal interest are the round blobs that adorn the harness of a horse - the Falars.
  • Graphic arts. The exposition includes graphics of such artists as Kustodiev, Nyssa, Galaktionov, Deineka, and others.
  • Russian expanses, where a collection of landscape painting reflecting the beauty of Russian nature in all its manifestations is collected.

In addition to permanent exhibitions, the Museum of Art (Sochi) invites excursionists to consider in detail the planning projects created for the Olympic Games that took place in 2014. The exhibition is called "Megaproject. Model Sochi Olympic ».

Excursions

The Museum of Art (Sochi) offers general excursions interesting for adults and children:

  • Soviet art of the period 30-50-ies. The excursion tells about the development of the city in this period and about the artists who recorded time and events in their paintings.
  • Evangelical plots. During the tour, visitors are introduced to a collection of icons, sculptural images, the history of Orthodoxy in Russia, its reflection in the paintings of artists.

Lecture activity is constantly conducted, vernissages and creative meetings are arranged, students have the opportunity to get a subscription to the lecture hall "Masterpieces of the Tretyakov Gallery". The staff of the museum see their mission not only in preserving culture and all kinds of art, but in educating the younger generation.
