Interesting Tajik names

Tajik names have a long history of their formation and development. During this time, the nation has been subjected to pressure from other cultures and religions many times. The Arab people had a significant impact as the most closely located. In general, the Tajik anthroponymy has developed under the influence of a variety of cultural, historical, political and socio-social factors. Islam had a huge influence. This religion gained wide popularity as a result of wars and confrontations with the Arabs, which forced captive Tajiks to change their faith. In connection with the change of traditions, the names of the naming themselves were transformed also Tajik names themselves. This led to the adoption of an anthroponymic model, in which both the basic nickname and patronyms were present, that is, a short attachment to the genus and ancestors.

In the future, the structure of the name began to become more complicated: titles and honorary nicknames were added, which pointed to the person's belonging to the notable estates. Such a stratification of society was conditioned by social etiquette and allocated each post in the government service. In addition, Tajik names showed the position of the individual in society not only by the existing prefixes, but also by their location in the structure. For example, the title of the hodge, which was located just before the main name, indicated that its owner belongs to the class of merchants or clerks of the office, while finding the title at the end of the name meant that the bearer was a descendant of "righteous caliphs." Thanks to his famous ancestors, a person could have a title, even if he was not on this service.

After the establishment of Soviet power in the territory of Central Asia , class distinctions and restrictions have disappeared, and a new anthroponymic system has also been established. At this stage, significantly influenced the culture of Russia both in the name of naming and the language traditions of the country. Honorable nicknames and titles disappeared, names and patronymics appeared in their names, which also formed under the influence of the Russian anthroponymic model.

Currently, young parents choose Tajik names for their pronunciation and interpretation, and can also name their child in honor of a respected relative or well-known historical figures.
