Majorca Airport Son San Juan is the largest in Spain

The airport of Palma de Mallorca (Son San Juan) is located eight kilometers southeast of the center of the main city of the Balearic Islands, on the site of a former military base. It opened in 1960 due to the active development of tourism to replace the Son Bonet, which continues, however, to function today. Since that time, it has been consistently modernized and expanded. The new terminal was built in 1997 on the project of the architect Per Nicolaou.

The Mallorca Son-San Juan Airport includes two runways (3000 and 3270 meters) suitable for use in low visibility conditions, one terminal divided into four modules (A, B, C, D). It is currently planned to build a third strip and a new maintenance hangar.

Inside the terminal there is a Banco Caixa branch, many ATMs distributed between the first and fourth floors. The bank is open from nine in the morning until two in the afternoon. The infrastructure includes a post office, mail boxes in different places, a restaurant, two large cafes, snack bars (on the second floor, one in the arrival zone, three in module C and two in module D), a pizzeria, several newsstands, souvenir shops, Duty-free shops operating around the clock, a travel agency, lost and found. On the ground floor, passengers can find a bar, where you can get tourist information. Several offices providing the necessary information are located in the registration areas (on flights), arrivals and departures.

Majorca Airport Has facilities for passengers with disabilities. There are ramps for wheelchairs, special telephone booths, elevators and toilets. Several parking spaces are reserved for them in car parks.

There is no hotel inside the terminal, but at a short distance from the aero node there are Arabella Sheraton, Melia Victoria, Palas Atenea Sol and other hotels of a very high standard. The airport of Mallorca offers such a service as booking rooms in these establishments by phone.

In the departure area there is a small business center and three VIP rooms equipped with TVs, telephones, mini-bars. Opening hours are from six in the morning until eleven in the evening. In addition, in the other part of the terminal there is a conference room with fax, telephones and computers.

The bus stop is opposite the car park in the arrival area. You can get to the city center by the route number 1, which leaves with a frequency of fifteen minutes to half an hour (from six in the morning to half a second night). Bus stops include the Porta de Camp, Porto Pi (shopping center in the center of Palma de Mallorca).

Son San Juan Airport, which is considered the third most important airport in Spain (after Barajas in Madrid and Barcelona's air gate in terms of passenger traffic), accepts flights from all over Europe. In 2003, changes were made to its infrastructure, aimed at providing the necessary conditions for flights of different categories - civil, private, and freight. The building for passengers carrying out regional and inter-island flights was opened. Today, Mallorca airport is one of the most modern in the world, capable of serving more than twenty million passengers per year.
