Luger "Parabellum" - pneumatic pistol

"Luger Parabellum" is a pistol developed by the weapons engineer Georg Johan Luger. Georg was an Austrian, but worked in Germany with German engineers at the Ludwig Leve weapons factory. The final development of the pistol was completed in 1900.

For the pistol "Luger Parabellum", the already used at that time pistol Borchardt, developed by the German engineer Hugo Borchardt, who together with George worked at the same factory at the same time, was taken as the basis of the design.

The main task in the development of Georg concentrated on convenience. He believed that the more comfortable the grip would be in his hand, the more accurate the shot would be. Thus, George created "Luger Parabellum", which had a comfortable grip, fully grasped by the palm, and a very light descent, which saved unwanted effort and shaking while the shutter was being released.

And although the production of a pistol is not cheap, it is still produced in factories, because it is one of the most convenient and high-precision models of weapons, as our modern military men point out.

In those days (this is the period 1900-1904) "Luger Parabellum" was already patented by Ioan Luger as his own invention, but in Europe the pistol was considered the invention of the engineer Borchardt.

In Germany, from 1902 to 1904, tests were conducted on a competitive basis of several self-loading pistols. At stake was a large purchase from the Kaiser Army, and many weapons factories that participated in the contest, wanted to win.

The "Luger Parabellum" pistol won, but in the process, at the request of the Kaiser Army, it was slightly modified. He was blown up for a larger caliber, and as a result, the geometry of the dulce was changed.

But the Kaiser Army was not in a hurry to mass purchase, giving the first right to the German naval staff, which in 1904 made the first purchase and supplied its own fleet. The Kaiser army armed itself only in 1908.

Shop gun

The magazine of the pistol is designed for 8 cartridges, single-shot. In the drum version of the pistol there are 32 cartridges. The magazine on the left of the handle snaps into place, where the trigger clip is.

The inclination of the handle is 120 degrees. Unlike modern models, it is considered a large angle. But this is what makes it possible to take a pistol with a comfortable grip, which, in turn, guarantees the most accurate sight.

Finishing the gun

All produced guns "Luger" were made of high-quality materials, and the fit to the moving parts was very accurate. Some pistols were engraved for decoration and giving aesthetic beauty.

Handle "Luger" before the Second World War was made of walnut wood, and during the war - from cheap plastic, as there was not enough wood for all the pistols. Yes, and expensive treat it was considered, so the German army saved on design delights.

When ordering from other countries, the plant put the coat of arms of the customer's country. If the gun was ordered by name, then they engraved the customer's name.

The gun itself was made of alloy steel, which had high strength and anti-corrosion properties.

Some parts were hardened in fire, and some passed simplified heat treatment.

Before the Second World War, to prevent the pistols from corrosion, they were oxidized.

Advantages of Parabelum:

  • Ideal design;
  • reliability;
  • Convenient handle;
  • Full control of shooting;
  • Low return on shooting, which makes the weapon highly accurate;
  • Accuracy of shooting as a direct sight, and offhand;
  • The super-speed of defeating the target during the shot.

Disadvantages of Parabellum:

  • The design is designed in such a way that you can not shoot with gloves, so in winter, in order to produce a shot, you had to remove one glove. This made Parabellum uncomfortable in certain weather conditions, and there was a risk - not to have time to get it and shoot at the enemy when attacking, if the hands are gloves.
  • If dirt enters the mechanism, a delay occurs when the shot is fired or a complete failure occurs. This is also not very convenient in war conditions - constantly monitor the cleanliness of the pistol.
  • The pistol works mainly with quality cartridges. If the cartridges are delivered with the marriage, then Parabellum may not fire, which makes it again uncomfortable in the conditions of war, when the cartridges are manufactured on a large stream, and the probability of marriage is much higher than in normal peacetime.
  • "Parabellum" can damage cartridges with a double charge of gunpowder.
  • In order not to get injuries on the face, you need to shoot at least a certain angle. Sometimes, in ambush conditions, it is not always possible to put your hand at an angle of 90 degrees or higher. In the event that the hand is slightly lowered down, or the gun will hide in the jacket pocket, you can easily get the sleeve in the person (in the eye) and kill yourself.

Production

The production of one "Parabellum" on average takes 13 man-hours. That is, it is quite a laborious process, so it can not be cheap.

To produce a gun weighing up to 900 grams, the manufacturer spent six kilograms of metal.

To build one "Parabellum" it is necessary to conduct 443 machine operations and 135 manual operations.

In 1930-1940, the cost of one gun cost the manufacturer 12 Reichsmark.

Combat characteristics P-08

A bullet from a distance of 49-51 meters easily breaks a pine log into 150 millimeters, and from a distance of 10 meters - a steel helmet.

In the "Luger" in 1900, a cartridge with a sleeve in the form of a bottle of 7.65 mm "Parabellum" was used.

In 1902, a 9 mm cartridge was used.

Models

All produced models wore a simple name, formed from the first letter of the plant and the year of the invention of the weapon.

M.1900 is an early model of the "Luger", developed in 1900, mainly used by the Swiss army.

M.1902 came out a bit later, in 1902, as a modified version of the previous one, under a nine-millimeter round.

M.1904 is the finalization of the 1902nd Luger, which was released in 1904. It was launched into mass production, and in 1904 it was produced and bought 81,300 units for the German navy.

M.1906 in 1906 underwent serious changes in the mechanism, after which it began to be called the "Parabellum of the new model". It was the first "Parabellum", which came out in two versions, under both cartridges.

M.1908 in 1908, too, underwent changes from the previous colleague and lost an automatic fuse. The second name of this weapon is "Pistol 08", and the third one is "P-08." This model was issued for the orders of many armies and for the first ten years it numbered more than 663 thousand units.

Artillery models: "Parabellums" were produced not only in the form of small and handguns, but also in the form of artillery models. In fact, it's "P-08 Lugers", only with an extended handle and barrel, respectively, and with a lot of weight, which allowed the guns to shoot longer distances.

For all time, only two artillery models were produced: Lange R-08 (LP 08) and LP 08 with a disc and butt. That is, two identical models, only the second was with a disk and a butt.

Until the end of the First World War, the production of "Luger" was engaged in the company DWM, and in 1910, the company joined the DWM "Erfurt", as the first did not have time to process orders.

Over 8 years of production, the latter produced more than half a million P-08 units.

After the First World War, Germany was banned from issuing military weapons. Mass production of "Lugerov" stopped, except for small parties for the needs of the police. But in 1930, production from Germany was moved to Switzerland, so the Lugers started to be produced again in large batches, and this year the Lugery pistols began to be mass exported to the United States.

After coming to power Adolf Hitler, who spit on all bans and began rearming the German army, the company "Mauser" resumed mass production of "Lugerov" in Germany.

The basis was taken P-08, over which the modifications were checked, and Hitler was presented with several variants of "Parabellums".

In addition to the "Mausers", two more Zimson and "Krieghof" zombies received an order for Parabellums.

Noise gun

"Luger Parabellum" noise - this is an exact copy of this pistol, only noise, with the type of cartridges used - 9 mm. Unlike the present, he is not capable of shooting at defeat. It is produced mainly in Germany and a little in Japan. To make the product visibility of antiquity, it is artificially aged directly at the factory. Basically, "Luger Parabellum" noise is acquired by private arms collectors or amateurs.

A case, a passport and a nozzle are attached to the gun. Cartridges are purchased separately.

The third model

The gun "Luger Parabellum" in 1898 was slightly modified. So, there was a new weapon of 7.65 mm caliber 122-millimeter barrel. Due to the movement of the return spring, the gun was significantly lost in weight and in dimensions, which made use and wearing even more convenient. The third modified pistol was liked by almost all the military of that time, and the governments of many countries began a massive purchase to supply their own armies. The production was delivered to the conveyor.

Pneumatics

"Luger Parabellum" pneumatic is a pneumatic version of a combat pistol of 1900 (replica). They are issued by several firms. Some firms try to completely copy the appearance of the real "Luger", but the interior and the feeling of the replica are not the same as in the present. Others are betting on an exact copy of the technical characteristics, but externally "Luger Parabellum" pneumatic is somewhat different.

Of the examples: the pneumatic P08 Umarex pistol, which is capable of shooting 120 balls per 1 CO 2 balloon. The cost of the gun varies from 3000 to 4000 thousand Russian rubles.

The pistol "Parabellum Luger" P 08 had the following characteristics:

  • The total length of all weapons is 218 mm.
  • The length of the trunk is 100 mm.
  • Weight of the product (without cartridges) - 890 grams.
  • The drum is designed for 8 cartridges.
  • The speed of the bullet is 320 meters per second.
  • The caliber is 9 mm.
  • The cartridge type is 9 by 9 "Parabellum".

About pneumatics from Gletcher

Pneumatics "Luger Parabellum" from Glether company made a sensation in the arms market in 2013, releasing an exact replica. They managed to recreate an exact copy of the famous pistol both externally and internally, and by technical qualities. True, the price, unlike the replicas of other manufacturers, was at least 2 times more expensive, but this did not scare fans of weapons, and they did not skimp on buying.

Despite the exact copy, after a while many buyers noted that in the used replica there are still unpleasant moments that hint at the Chinese assembly. So, the elements from the skin noticeably changed color after a while, swelled and made the smell of cheap rubber and dyes.

"Luger Parabellum" pneumatic Gletcher do not want to let go. It is so conveniently placed in the palm of your hand that you get used to it very quickly - as users of pneumatics note.

The pneumatic "Luger Parabellum" with the fleetback is an innovative development with the crank-and-crank mechanism of cock cocking. In the store you can put 22 bullets, and the CO2 cylinder is inserted into the handle of the pneumatic. The pneumatic pistol "Parabellum Luger" can be found in domestic online stores or on message boards (buy from hand).

Signal pistol

The signal pistol "Parabellum Luger" (Luger P-08 9 mm) is produced under a blank cartridge. The gas from it goes through the hole behind the chamber.

Traumatic pistol

The traumatic pistol "Luger Parabellum" was released in 1940. All the same well-known engineers Khairem and Luger took part in the creation.

"Luger Parabellum" traumatic was a self-loading short-barreled pistol.
