In the 1950s, lofts acquired the status of elite housing, prices for them increased many-fold, and they began to be acquired by successful financiers, top managers and famous lawyers. Today, in many cities in the US and Europe, on the site of the former industrial blocks, which as a result of the growth of settlements were in the center of the city, there were entire areas where you can buy or rent loft apartments. Even a special style has been formed, and some super-elite new buildings are specially designed for housing built in former production shops.

They quickly became fashionable, especially since most of the first lofts were in the immediate vicinity of the center.

Among the first successful projects of redevelopment of former industrial facilities for comfortable housing can be noted "Danilovskaya Manufaktura" and Manhattan House, housed in the buildings of the late 19th century and 30s of the last century, which quickly turned into one of the most prestigious residential complexes of the capital. And soon the buildings, stylized as loft apartments, began to be built. Moscow, thus, has become one with other world capitals, and Muscovites have been able to more diverse choice of housing options.

Among the LCD business class of the capital can be noted residential complex near the Golovinsk ponds, created on the basis of the old buildings of the cloth manufactory "Iokish". Those who are well acquainted with the northern capital will confirm that there are a lot of old industrial zones, simply created to be converted to comfortable business class housing. In particular, the territories on the island of New Holland and the Obvodny Canal are very promising from this point of view . At the same time, experts in the real estate market state that loft apartments in St. Petersburg are much less in demand than in Moscow, and there are only a few projects currently under implementation, including stylization. The reason, most likely, lies in the ignorance and lack of proper advertising of such a new type of residential real estate for Russia.

Last fall, it was announced the beginning of sales of apartments in LCD Docklands.
