Kandinsky Prize: to whom and for what?

Already ten years annually in our country the national award to the best representatives of modern domestic art is handed over. Over the years, it has already counted several dozen laureates and is recognized not only in the Russian Federation, but also abroad.

History of the award

In the form known today, the Kandinsky Prize was created only in 2007.

However, this was the second reincarnation of the award.

For the first time the Kandinsky Prize was established by Nina Kandinskaya, wife of Vasily Vasilyevich, a few years after the artist passed away. Then it lasted for 15 years.

The Kandinsky Prize, founded by Shalva Petrovich Breus, carried several goals. But the main rule was assigned easy reach and understandability for the participation of all artists.

The Kandinsky Prize is distinguished by the fact that masters have the opportunity to submit applications for participation independently, without the mediation of museums and galleries.

The jury was planned to be exclusively international, which has been observed for a decade now.

Today the Kandinsky Prize seeks to develop contemporary Russian art. The main goal is still finding new projects and young artists and involving connoisseurs in the cultural life of the country.

A little about Kandinsky

Vasily Kandinsky rightly deserved to give the name of such a big award. Russian artist, one of the founders of abstract art, is an inspiring example of a man who conquered his dream. At the insistence of his parents, after graduating from Moscow University, a successful young lawyer refuses to hold the position of a professor and at the age of 30 begins his career as an artist. He worked in Russia, Germany, France.

The most famous Vasily Vasilievich gets, living in Germany. For his creative life Kandinsky visited Africa, traveled Europe, organized and headed several creative associations. Expositions dedicated to his work are arranged everywhere to this day.

In what categories are the awards given?

The laureates of the Kandinsky Prize this year became simultaneously "jubilee". During the tenth award ceremony, awards were presented in three categories.

In 2012-2013, the prize was awarded only in the first two categories.

Earlier, from 2007 to 2011, there were three of them, the same number became since 2014.

Since the foundation of the award, the classic "Project of the Year" and "Young Artist" have been supplemented with the "Media Art. Project of the Year ". Later, the last category was replaced by a prize in the field of scientific publications and publications.

The first prize is about 40 thousand euros. This is the largest financial award among all in the post-Soviet space.

It is interesting that besides the money award, artists get the opportunity to take part in exhibitions all over Russia and abroad, which promotes their own creativity.

How to become applicants

To get on the list of participants and try their hand at winning the award, first of all, it is required to announce itself to the organizing committee.

Then your application will go through all the voting steps. The procedure is the same for the categories "Project of the Year" and "Young Artist" and only slightly differs for "Scientific Work". In the selection of tenders in all categories, experts, united in the council, and the panel of the international jury take part.

So, at the first stage the council draws up the so-called long-list, a long list of candidates.

The shortlist of the Kandinsky Prize is formed at the second level, and the selection is already conducted by a jury of each separate category. This short list and includes all the finalists of the Prize.

Laureates are already determined at the third stage.

Winners

The first awarding ceremony was timed to the birthday of Vasily Kandinsky - December 4. The winners of that year were also symbolic four. Anatoly Osmolovsky subdued the commission with his "Products" of aesthetic militarism. Vladlena Gromova presented to the jury the video work "Portrait" about the identity "without your own self."

Winner in the category "Media Art" Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe took the prize for participating in the restoration version of the film "Volga-Volga". In the same they voted for the "Audience Prize for the Best Artwork", the winner of which was Peter Goloschapov.

During the jubilee X ceremony, the award was given to three authors. Andrey Kuzkin, laureate of the nomination "Project of the Year", struck the jury with the "Right to Life" project. Victor Misiano took the prize for his publication "Vinogradov and Dubosarsky." The girl with the original name of Super Taus won the top in the category "Young Artist".

Prizes were won by such authors as Alexey Belyaev-Gintovt, Zakharov Vadim, Albert Yury, Podoroga Valery. The Kandinsky Prize unveils unknown names and presents them to viewers at exhibitions organized and held around the world.

His most famous works are "Wobble" and "Composition".

As you can see, the annual award in our country is awarded to the best representatives of modern Russian art. During its existence, it counted more than a hundred laureates and is recognized not only in Russia, but also abroad.
