In what cases is lactobacterin needed for newborns?

Even in healthy newborns there is a dysbacteriosis - a change in the intestinal microflora. Normally, the intestines of the baby should have a certain number of so-called symbionts - microorganisms that constantly exist in the human body and help to properly digest nutrients. In 1 gram of feces of the child, which is fed with breast milk, there are up to 1000 useful bifidobacteria. But a number of factors can lead to a change in the quantitative and qualitative composition of the microflora. Then doctors prescribe lactobacillus for newborns. Causes of diseases can be:

  • Starvation and exhaustion of the body;
  • Enzymatic insufficiency;
  • Radiation exposure;
  • Treatment with chemotherapy and antibiotics;
  • Hormonal therapy.

Does not contribute to the formation of normal microflora and artificial feeding. Bifidogenic flora is thermolabile, so the use of even expressed, but heated milk will not give the child enough protective substances, as with breastfeeding. In such children, the content of bifidobacteria drops to 100 per gram of feces. Lack of useful microorganisms must be replenished, and lactobacterin for newborns is doing well.

It contains lactobacilli. These bacteria are necessarily present in a healthy human body, both in the digestive system and in the urinary tract. When their number is markedly reduced, the child may develop diarrhea, including infectious origin. Lactobacterin for newborns is prescribed to cope with this unpleasant disease.

This drug is administered to children and many other diseases:

  • Intestinal colic;
  • Crohn's disease;
  • Inflammation of the large intestine;
  • Necrotizing enterocolitis;
  • Irritable bowel syndrome.

Some pathogenic microorganisms, for example Helicobacter pylori, are capable of provoking a peptic ulcer. In such cases, doctors also prescribe lactobacillus, for newborns it will be very useful. The drug also helps to prevent catarrhal and infectious diseases of the respiratory and urinary tract, is able to cope with vaginal yeast infections.

Unfortunately, medicine is still weak in selective antibiotics. These drugs kill not only pathogenic bacteria, but also a useful microflora. Therefore, usually doctors simultaneously with antibiotics write out lactobacterin, for babies it is simply necessary to use it. But that the active microorganisms of the drug were not destroyed, the difference in the intake of antibiotics and lactobacterin should be at least two hours.

In addition, you need to carefully consider the dosage, especially if the drug is used without consulting a doctor. If a child has just drunk a course of antibiotics, it is enough to give him a quarter teaspoon of a drug (if this solution) or a quarter of a capsule to restore normal microflora. To treat infectious diseases, this dose may also be sufficient, but it is better to ask the doctor after all.

Despite the fact that the drug is completely safe, you need to be careful, especially when using lactobacillus for newborns, the instruction still mentions some side effects. In particular, it says that nausea and vomiting may occur, and diarrhea may appear. If the symptoms persist during the day, it is worth to cancel the drug and consult a doctor who will write out a more suitable analogue.

Preparations containing lactobacilli may also be present in some products of therapeutic nutrition (for example, in biolact, vitalact and others). This, too, must be taken into account when assigning the baby lactobacterin.
