Modern treatment of such a disease is a whole complex of procedures, which includes not only medicamentous, but also psychotherapeutic methods of treatment. So, we will list shortly medicamental methods of treatment of an alcoholism. It should be noted that the treatment of alcoholism implies the use of aggressive therapies. Their goal is, as it were, to program a person in such a way that the feeling of fear of death worsened when drinking alcohol . The obvious drawback of such methods is that when taking alcohol in an organism that undergoes this procedure, form poisons as by-products. They can cause severe illnesses or even lead to death. Most often, with medicamentous treatment, the following drugs are used:

  • Disulfiram is a very heavy drug. When reacting with alcohol causes severe malaise. However, in the treatment with this drug, patients recover in 59% of cases.
  • Calcium carbomide is an analogue of the previous preparation. It differs in that it does not adversely affect the liver and does not cause drowsiness in the patient.
  • Naltrexone - this drug reduces dependence on alcohol, by reducing the satisfaction from its use. The patient does not experience those sensations that he experienced earlier and thus refuses to systematically consume alcohol.
  • Acamproxate - this drug stabilizes the processes in the brain of the patient. Thus, not only the effect of treatment on addiction is achieved, but the likelihood of relapse decreases.
  • Preparations with zinc base. These drugs only stabilize the patient's condition. With their help, you can remove the effects of poisoning and hangover syndrome. It can also enhance immunity, but does not give the patient the desire to give up the subsequent adoption of alcohol.

Psychotherapeutic methods

These methods are best used with the above drugs, then their combination gives the best results. The doctor the psychotherapist during several sessions fixes at the patient a feeling of disgust for alcohol. This avoids disruption and re-treatment. A person has increased self-esteem and, ultimately, formed a goal in life, which he will not achieve if he consumes alcohol.
