How to insulate the loggia yourself? Insulator "Izover": reviews

Warming of the glazed loggia allows, although not particularly, but still increase the living space of the apartment. On such a balcony, if desired, you can arrange a small office, workshop or even a bedroom. About how to insulate the loggia yourself, let's talk further in the article.

Stages of work

Warming of the loggia presupposes the following sequence of works:

  1. Preparation of the surface of walls, ceiling and floor.
  2. Installing the crate.
  3. Warming of the ceiling.
  4. Thermal insulation of the parapet and walls.
  5. Waterproofing floor.
  6. Warming of the floor.
  7. The device is a vapor barrier.
  8. Sheathing of the loggia with a finishing material.

About the features of holding all these events, we'll talk a little later. First it is necessary to understand what materials are suitable for covering the walls, floor and ceiling of the loggia best.

Choosing a heater

The question of how to insulate the loggia yourself depends primarily on the choice of a suitable heat insulator. In the case of arrangement of the balcony , "Penoplex" or mineral wool is usually used. Both of these materials have good thermal insulation characteristics. The disadvantage of mineral wool is that it is able to absorb moisture, while losing its protective properties. "Penoplex" is quite flammable. One of the most popular varieties of mineral wool is the rather new glass fiber material in the Russian market - Insulator Isover. Let's see what specific advantages and disadvantages it differs, what opinions about it exist, whether it is worth using it on the loggia in general.

Heater "Izover". Advantages and disadvantages

The official manufacturer of fiberglass slabs and mats of this brand in Russia is the company Saint-Gobain Isover, which operates on the domestic market since 1994. At the moment, Izover is perhaps the most famous brand of heat insulation in the world. This material has the following advantages:

  • Absolute fire safety. Fibers "Isovera" are made of non-flammable glass.
  • Very low degree of thermal conductivity.
  • Ease of transportation. Mats and slabs of this material are light in weight.
  • Absolute ecological cleanliness. "Isover" is certified by many leading organizations and agencies of the world.
  • The vapor-insulating properties increased in comparison with most other types of fiber insulation.
  • Durability. Serve this material can be up to 50 years.
  • Presence of grooved edges. This addition allows you to perform the best quality thermal insulation, as the plates are very close to each other.
  • Ease of installation.

So, "Isover" - a very good answer to the question of what to insulate the loggia from the inside. However, those owners of apartments, who decided to choose this material as the thermal insulator, should also be aware of its shortcomings. There are only two of them at the "Izover". First, it, like all mineral fibrous materials, is afraid of moisture. However, compared to other varieties of mineral wool, its moisture-resistant properties are still slightly higher. The fact is, it has a large number of hydrophobic additives, which increase its hygroscopicity. To small disadvantages of this material can also be attributed to the fact that during installation from it a little crumbling small villi. Therefore, before the start of work is necessary to wear overalls.

Reviews about insulation "Isover"

The Russian consumer has already managed to appreciate the remarkable qualities of such material as insulation Izover. Those who have already used it to cover the loggia, house or roof, note its good thermal insulation properties. A small disadvantage of consumers is that after working with this material, the body and hands begin to itch, almost like after usual glass wool. Despite this, the feedback of owners of loggias, balconies, and countryside private homes about this material is mostly positive.

Whatever it was, which is better - a moisture-resistant insulation "Penoplex" or incombustible "Isover" - to decide, of course, to the owners of housing.

Preparatory work

So, how best to warm the loggia? After you have decided what kind of heat insulation material is necessary for you, you can proceed with the actual work on the skin. But before that, it will be necessary to carry out a number of preparatory measures. On the loggia of the panel house, it is absolutely necessary to seal all the joints between the panels. In addition, all surfaces must be cleaned of dust and dirt.

We warm the loggia ourselves. Edging of the battens

Under mineral wool, including "Izover", usually a lath made of a wooden beam is arranged. Mount it better in an upright position. The width of the beam should be equal to the width of the plates of mineral wool. Preliminary in the walls make holes with a step of about 40 mm. Then they insert plastic dowels. Then drill the bar and fix it to the wall with screws. The step between the battens should be equal to the width of the insulation plates.

Installation of "Izover" on the ceiling and walls

Plates "Izovera" are inserted between the beams as tightly as possible. Be sure to ensure that between them and the elements of the crate there were no crevices. To begin installation is best from the ceiling of the loggia. Here, the slabs, in order that they do not fall out, are additionally fixed with special plastic dowels - "fungi". For reliability, this method of attachment can be applied to walls.

How to insulate a loggia using Penoplex

As already mentioned, Penoplex is another good answer to the question of how to insulate the loggia yourself. The best for this purpose is suitable plates with a thickness of 40 to 60 mm. Mount "Penoplex" on the ceiling and walls in much the same way as "Izover".

However, if the loggia surfaces are flat enough, the lath can not be arranged for it. In this case, the slabs on the ceiling and walls are simply glued. Mount the slabs uncontrolled, so that the cross does not form on the wall. At the final stage, the seams are sealed with foam. As you can see, it is as easy to insulate a loggia as "Penoplex" as it is to "Izoverom".

Steam insulation of the loggia

And in the case of using the "Izover", and with the insulation of the loggia "Penoplex" it is necessary to arrange a vapor barrier. The fact is that in any residential room the humidity of the air is always slightly higher than in the street. As a result, condensation accumulates on the walls, and consequently on the insulation, which is highly undesirable. In order to protect the heat insulator, a special film is used. You can pull cheap polyethylene. However, it is preferable to use some of its modern foil counterpart. Such materials create a thermos effect in the room. They are mounted with foil inside.

Strengthen the vapor barrier horizontally with an overlap of about 15 cm. For reliability, you can glue joints with double-sided tape. To the crate, the film is attached using 3 cm thick bars. This allows you to arrange a ventilating layer between the vapor barrier and the finishing skin. Passing through the formed empty space, the air dries out the condensate formed on the surface of the protective film.

Warming of the floor

The question of how to insulate the loggia on its own depends, among other things, on the issue of floor warming. You can proceed to this event immediately after the walls and the parapet are covered with cotton wool or "Penoplex". For reliability, the floor surface is sometimes waterproofed, smearing with bituminous mastic. Then the lags are laid. They can be made from a bar 50x100x150 mm. As a heat insulator, the same "Izover" or "Penoplex" as well as expanded clay is used. After the space between the lags is filled with insulation, they are filled with a vapor barrier, and then a floor, terrace or conventional edging board.

Finishing trim

Warming of the loggia (photos of the materials "Isover" and "Penoplex", perfectly suited for this purpose, you can see on this page) ends with plating of finishing materials. In this case, it is customary to use a lining, plastic panels, plywood and drywall. The board is fastened to the bars holding the vapor barrier, on special clayers. Plywood and plasterboard can be fixed to self-tapping screws.

Warming of the loggia outside

Despite the fact that the insulation of the loggia from the outside is considered more effective, this method is used much less often than insulation from the inside. This is explained by the need for using a tower or hiring a high-mounted installer. In the end, such insulation is very expensive. It is impossible to perform it independently at all. In the case of insulation of the loggia from the outside, the same heaters are used as for the interior work. The first is also mounted crate. Next, the insulation plates are installed. Above them, a waterproofing membrane is mounted. In this case, special films are used that let steam from inside the loggia and retain moisture outside. Mount the membrane also on the bars. Next on them is fastened siding, profiled sheet or some other finishing.

Heating of the loggia

In order to make the loggia really warm, when glazing it should be used at least three-chamber glass with a plastic or wooden profile. Of course, you need to install here and heaters. Some apartment owners take out central heating batteries on the loggia. However, when making such a decision, one should keep in mind that this is strictly prohibited by the regulations. When selling an apartment with a loggia so equipped, its owners can have serious problems.

Therefore it is better to install on the balcony heating appliances that work on electricity. It can be a convector or an oil cooler. It is best to place the device under the windows. In this case, less condensate will form on the glass.

How much does it cost to insulate the loggia

When using both "Penoplex" and "Izover" - materials relatively inexpensive, the paneling of the standard loggia in the five-story building will cost about 9000 rubles. Specialists also take about 12,000 rubles for the work. So, warming the loggia yourself, you can save a significant amount.

Of course, the numbers mentioned above are approximate. The answer to the question of how much it costs to insulate the loggia depends on many factors - will the "warm" floors be arranged, in what condition are the walls, ceiling and floor, what will the vapor barrier be used for, how much is the wooden beam in this particular region, E.

Design of insulated loggia

If you are strictly adhering to the laid technologies, when you work on walls, floors, ceilings and parapets, you will get a very cozy insulated loggia. Design it should be chosen, guided by the style that was used in decorating and decorating the main premises of the apartment. So, if it's a classic, it's worth to take plasterboard for plating or decorate the surface with decorative plaster. For country or provence directions, the lining is perfect. For modern styles, usually choose plastic panels or the same drywall.

Insulated loggias (photo of one of them you see above) can have a more original design. Very interesting, for example, wall painting. This finish is perfect for both classic and modern. The combination of different materials looks good too. For example, plastic and aluminum.

Warming loggia "Izoverom", you should pay maximum attention to the sealing of seams between panels and the device of vapor barrier. When using the same "Penoplex" it is necessary to observe with special accuracy the rules for the installation of electrical wiring, as well as switches and sockets.
