How to install the video card yourself

If you are a hardcore gamer or suddenly realized that your computer is not as young as you would like, you will be interested in learning how to install a graphics card. This device is responsible for the output and processing of all graphic information, so replacing the video card in the computer will give a significant increase in speed. It is also possible that your old card is burnt or broken, and you do not really want to call the master. Then this article will help you learn how to install the video card yourself.

Before installing a new device on your computer, be sure to find out two parameters of your motherboard, in order to avoid buying the wrong component:

1. Power consumption

If you buy a higher-end graphics card, check how much power is needed to operate it. In some cases, you will have to buy a new power supply, since the old one will not be able to "feed" your new card. Usually enough block with a power of 300 watts, rarely 400-600 watts.

2. Graphical Port

At the moment there are two types of ports: AGP and PCI-Express. AGP is used mainly in fairly old motherboards. If you are the owner of a new system unit, feel free to take a PCI-Express compatible graphics card. But if you still doubt, be sure to look in the technical data sheet of the motherboard.

If you understand this, then to understand how to install a video card will be easy for you. Let's start with removing the old video card. To do this, first go to the "Device Manager" of your system, find the "Video adapters" tab, go there, select your video device and call the context menu. Select the "Properties" item, go to the sub-item "Driver" and click "Delete". Do not panic if your monitor suddenly turns off, which means that you did everything right and you can safely turn off the computer through the power button.

Now let's go directly to the mechanical extraction of the video card. To do this, remove the cover of the system unit, de-energize it, pulling out all the cords connected to the socket, find your video card, unscrew the fixing screws and pull it out. Next, insert your new video card, but do not force it. If the card is matched correctly, it will easily fit into the connector.

After a successful upgrade, you must install the driver on the video card, since it can not work correctly without them. If you bought accessories in the store, you will most likely get a special driver disk with which you can easily install them. But if you bought a card from your hands, then you will have to look for drivers on the Internet on official websites of manufacturers.

After installation it is desirable to test your video card. For these purposes, I would advise you to use the 3D Mark and AIDA64 programs. With the help of the first program you can learn a lot about the health of your card, and the second one is used to monitor the temperature (to avoid overheating). I hope everything goes smoothly, and you can proudly say that you know how to install a video card in any computer.
