How is the engine self-propelled?

Each driver is responsible for the serviceability of his car. The heart of any machine can be considered an engine, on the condition of which much depends. Nevertheless, not all motorists perform its regular cleaning of the deposit, which inevitably forms in the process of exploitation, although this is not at all difficult. Let's see how the engine is self-propelled, what it will take, and what nuances can be.

Let's return to the Soviet Union

The deconstruction of engines was also used by our grandfathers, although the methods and means were somewhat different, but the essence was preserved. The whole point was that the fuel in the Soviet Union was of poor quality, because of this the engine quickly "overgrew" with carbon. Then mix acetone and kerosene in a 1: 1 ratio and wash the power unit. This made it possible to partially or completely remove carbon deposits from the pistons, return the mobility to the oil-removal and compression rings.

Since then, a lot of time has passed, the quality of fuel has become much better, but the engines are more capricious today. That's why even a modern motor requires regular cleaning of the deposit. If this is not done, then as a result of the piston rings, the heat exchange in the combustion chamber worsens, and the car loses significantly in dynamics.

Preventive measures

Currently, there are several ways to clean the power unit from the deposit. One of them is "soft". It is more suitable for prophylaxis than for dealing with already formed sludge. Nevertheless, this is an excellent solution for a new car or engine that has recently been overhauled.

"Soft" excerpts are so popular for the simple reason that even a beginner can cope with this task. To do this, you will need to buy a special additive such as "Laurus" or "Vince" and add it to the tank according to the instructions. Usually poured from 150 to 500 grams, depending on the concentration of 40-60 liters of gasoline. It is recommended to repeat the procedure every several thousand kilometers. As a result, a protective film forms on the walls of the combustion chamber, which prevents further formation of carbon deposits. Over time, the already existing scurf burns, however, it all depends on the degree of neglect, so this method does not always help.

Radical measures

If you notice such symptoms as increased fuel consumption, oil, poor dynamics and floating idling speed, then it's worth considering the "hard" excision. Its essence lies in the fact that the spark plugs are unscrewed and the Hall sensor is turned off. Pistons are set at approximately the same level. This is done by turning the crankshaft manually by 5-10 degrees. Flushing is then poured according to the instructions. Usually it is 30-45 ml per cylinder.

The procedure should be carried out on a warm engine, and immediately after filling the excavation, the candles are baited on their seats. Thus, it is possible to achieve the effect of a "steam bath". In this condition, the car is left for a while, from one hour to a day. If the liquid went into the crankcase, then we screw in the candles and let the engine run for 5-10 minutes at idle with variable gas readings. After all, you need to replace the oil in the system.

Diesel engine self-propulsion

The diesel engine is cleaned in exactly the same way as the petrol engine. The first thing to do is to install the car on a horizontal surface and warm the motor to operating temperature. Next, the nozzles are removed, and the pistons are installed in the middle position. The chemical solution is poured directly into the cylinders and remains there for 10-12 hours. In this case, the injectors are recommended to be baited back so that the steam is formed in the cylinders, which contributes to the softening of the deposit.

Excessive flushing from the combustion chamber can be removed in several ways. The simplest thing is to crank the crankshaft. In this case, it is recommended to close the cylinders with rags so that the tool does not fall on the nodes of the engine compartment. After that, the nozzles are put in place. The motor must be operated at variable speed for 10 minutes. Also you can drive a short distance (no more than 50 km.) Then the oil and filter change.

Unscrewing the VAZ engine with your own hands

As an example, take a domestic car VAZ-2109. From the necessary we need the following:

  • A new set of spark plugs;
  • Engine oil and filter;
  • Candle key;
  • Excavator;
  • Clean rags.

It is desirable to immediately install the car over the inspection pit so that after the excavation it would be possible to replace the oil. If the engine is already warm, then it's time to unscrew the spark plugs and blow the wells with compressed air. Then the fourth speed is turned on, and the pistons are set to approximately one position. To try to maximize their alignment, you can use a screwdriver to determine the position. Further, a liquid is poured in, approximately 40 ml into each cylinder and candles are made available. It is recommended to leave the car in this position for 12 hours. Then you need to remove the rinsing residue, turn on new spark plugs and let the engine run a little. Change the oil and filter.

What results are expected?

On this occasion, from the motorists there is a huge amount of feedback. Unpacking the engine ZMZ-405 with their own hands, for example, is carried out by drivers very often, because this power unit itself is hardy and it's hard to kill. But coking leads to loss of traction. That is why many drivers after using the "Lavra" or similar means note the following improvements:

  • Lower oil consumption;
  • Reduction of fuel consumption;
  • Improvement of dynamics.

It is worth noting that in the case of an engine running, the combustion chamber becomes somewhat smaller in volume. This leads to the fact that the heat exchange is broken and the power is lost. After the excavation the camera acquires the former volume, which contributes to the improvement of the dynamic characteristics.

A little about the shortcomings

Not always after washing the engine works as it should, this is very often said by motorists and ordinary motorists in their responses. Careful excavation of the engine with their own hands does not hurt, since the additives in the fuel wash the burn slowly and for a long time. But a "hard" flushing can only aggravate the situation. The fact is that with a large amount of carbon in the combustion chamber, it acts as a seal between the piston and the cylinder. When it is removed, an even greater gap is formed. This results in an increased oil consumption in the power unit. In this case, only overhaul will help, and nothing can be done about it.

Therefore, one more time you need to think about whether it is worth doing an excavation on an old engine, or it can only bring about a major overhaul. Many motorists faced a similar problem. Therefore, it is impossible to talk about the unequivocal benefits of such a procedure.

Compliance with the instructions

The result largely depends on the consistency and correctness of the actions. The fact that many motorists pour into the cylinders is not 40 ml, as written in the instructions, but for 100 or even more. It would seem that there is nothing terrible in this. But this can lead to the fact that the first start of the power unit after washing will be very difficult. The same applies to the Hall sensor, it must necessarily be turned off before making the excavation. Otherwise, an ignition may occur with all the ensuing consequences.

It is also desirable to regularly use washing to achieve optimal results. And this is done for all engines without exception, whether it's a diesel "Toyota" or a gasoline VAZ-2107. The self-propelling of the engine must be carried out with each oil change. In this case, you can count on the increase in power and the reduction in oil consumption.

Reviews of motorists about excavation

Among the drivers there are both proponents of engine washing and opponents. Some are confident in the efficiency of excavation, while others are talking about the irreparable harm caused to the motor from such procedures. And, as already noted above, this can save the engine and significantly delay the overhaul, and, conversely, bring it closer.

But on the whole, there was a positive opinion among the motorists about the excavation. To many it really helps. For example, very often the consumption of oil liter per thousand kilometers is halved, and this is no longer critical. Experts point out that such tools as "Lavr" or "High-Gyr" are practically neutral to rubber products. Gaskets and oil seals do not suffer after the excavation. Although the use of a low quality wash can destroy already leaky gaskets.

Compression and something else

We have already figured out how the engine is self-made. If to reflect, then there is nothing complicated. It is highly recommended to measure the compression of the engine before performing the work. The same must be done after the excavation. It is likely that the piston and oil-removal rings do not yet have critical wear, but simply coked and lost their mobility. In this case, washing will uniquely increase the compression to acceptable limits. If the indicators, on the contrary, fell, then, most likely, the rings have already worked their way and worn out, plus everything, the deposit was washed, and the pressure fell even more.

On V-shaped engines, it is somewhat more difficult to flush. This is directly related to the design features of the power unit. Do not forget that on each side there are often separate ignition coils.

Let's sum up the results

If the executed excavation of the engine rings with their own hands did not give a result, then in time it is worth repeating the procedure. After all, it is not always possible to remove a large layer of carbon from the first time. In this case, do not wash several times in a row in one sitting. It is better to try again with another oil change. Especially since you already know how to do it yourself. Decomposition of the piston rings of the engine is a very budgetary measure. Of course, provided that you carry it out in your garage, not at the service station. Although you can trust and experts, but in this case there is no guarantee that everything will be done in good faith or even done. If the service and handle, then only in the tested, while it is desirable to fully control the entire process of washing.
