How is laryngitis treated in children by home methods? Forms and signs of the disease

In the cold season, the incidence of various colds is significantly increased. Among the most common of these is laryngitis. This article provides information on the types of this, sometimes quite dangerous, disease of the nasopharynx. It also describes how to cure laryngitis in a child (in its initial stage) with home remedies.

What is the specificity of different types of this disease?

Knowing the main causes and forms, you can more accurately determine how to treat laryngitis in children.

Form of the disease

Symptoms of the disease

Possible causes of the disease and the factors contributing to it

Category of patients

Stenosing laryngitis (false croup)

"Barking" cough, shortness of breath, severe deterioration of the patient. Difficulty breathing, since the lumen in the larynx is narrowed considerably due to edema.

Infection (flu, cold, etc.), an allergic predisposition. Wet weather with sharp changes in air temperature.

Mostly young children are affected by the disease.

Catarrhal laryngitis

Hoarseness, a sensation of perspiration in the throat, an easy and rare cough.

Infections, weakened immunity.

Regardless of age.

Hypertrophic laryngitis

More severe hoarseness and cough. When examined by a doctor on the ligaments, the "nodules of the singer" are found.

In extreme cases, it is necessary to cauterize the tubercles, and sometimes to remove surgically.

Children tend to outgrow this form of the disease due to a change in the hormonal background.

Atrophic laryngitis

The larynx has an internal thinned mucosa. Cough is dry and hoarse. Often accompanied by expectoration of dry veins with blood.

Excessive consumption of spicy food and seasonings.

The category of "risk" is gourmets of spicy food, including mountaineers. Children are rare.

How is laryngitis treated in children with folk remedies?

Whether it is necessary to resort immediately to medicines? Is it possible to use home remedies? Given the signs and severity of the condition described above, only a doctor can accurately know and determine how laryngitis is treated in children. He may also recommend the following activities:

  • Creation of high humidity in the room. The main ways - from hanging wet towels to the open boiling of herbal solutions.
  • Observance of a sparing diet, excluding spicy, overly spicy food and any hot and cold dishes. The menu should consist of warm soups, stew, stewed masses, chopped meat and fish products, various kissels and mousses.
  • Holding foot baths with mandatory absence of increased body temperature. The duration of the procedure is from 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Use of nasopharyngeal enveloping products - medical candy, sweets with menthol, warm drink (for example, milk with honey or a piece of butter).
  • Inhalation of the nasopharynx to reduce dryness of the mucosa. The main forms and methods of conducting it are described below.

How else is laryngitis treated?

Children with inhalants can achieve good results in treatment. The ideal form of recovery is the use of various ultrasonic devices and nebulizers. Charge the inhaler with saline solution (a liquid for storing contact lenses is suitable) and add a little "Ambrobe" or "Lazolvana" into it. These drugs should be a neutral medium, but not a syrup. Carry out inhalations every hour for 10 to 15 minutes. If you do not have special equipment, you can replace it with improvised means. Organize, for example, a steam bath over freshly cooked potatoes. Or you can pour a little soda or medicinal herbs into the boiling water (mother-and-stepmother, thyme, licorice). After the inhalations in any of the listed forms, it is advisable not to talk for half an hour to "cool down" the vocal cords.

It should be borne in mind that under the obligatory control of a doctor, medicinal treatment of laryngitis in children is carried out. Drugs may be prescribed only by a specialist. Therefore, the main thing that parents of a sick child need to do is to consult a doctor for professional advice.
