How and when to plant tomatoes

As it is pleasant, when already from the middle of summer the household plot starts to please a plentiful harvest of tomatoes. To obtain such a high crop, you need to know exactly when to plant tomatoes, and then to do a number of long and painstaking activities, you need to do this in the early spring.

The first item on this list is the choice and preparation of seeds for sowing. Sometimes many vegetable growers want to know exactly - when to sow tomatoes. But beforehand, no one can say, it all depends on the date of planting the seedlings in the soil, which in turn depends on a number of factors. Among them there is a quality greenhouse on the site, the level of soil heating in it, insurance against a number of damages of the plant in the spring, when frost may occur. Only by owning all this information on the timing of planting seedlings in the ground, you can talk about when to sow tomatoes.

As a rule, seeds of tomatoes are sown sixty days before the date of disembarkation to a permanent place in the soil of seedlings. For example, in the conditions of the middle belt of the Russian Federation, the second half of March is considered a good time for sowing seeds for seedlings in the greenhouse, and for the open soil - the first decade of April. Since it is these terms that allow plants to be the most robust and healthy. And when the tomatoes fall into the open ground or into an unheated greenhouse, then the seeds planted in early March or in February will be outstripped in growth.

March tomatoes that are sown at the end of the month or early April will be more prolific, since the rudiment of the future crop is laid already in the first days of plant life. When the shoots get enough sunlight, the seedlings, considering that it has fallen into a favorable climate, programs itself for a high yield.

If you sow seeds earlier, then such crops will give poor results, because overgrown tomato seedlings do not get well. Quite often you can see how it sheds ovaries, flowers, because it tolerates a lower temperature.

If the question of when to sow tomatoes, the answer is already clear, now it is worth giving a couple of words to the planting itself. Before sowing the seeds should be soaked in a solution saturated with microelements. There are different recipes for the preparation of this solution, one of them is considered the most popular. For such a composition it is necessary to take boric acid and sulphate manganese, mix everything in one liter of water. The temperature of the saturated solution should not exceed twenty-four degrees. Soaking time from half a day to sixteen hours. After that, the seeds should be dried and sown.

In addition, it is very useful to treat the seeds of tomatoes with the infusion of wood ash. To do this, take it twenty grams, fill it with water and insist for 24 hours. Then in this solution soak the seeds for several hours.

Some experienced vegetable growers, who know when to sow tomatoes, produce, in addition to the above procedures, also laying seeds to increase the resistance of seedlings to low temperatures. To do this, dry seeds must be put on a couple of days in the refrigerator, where the temperature is maintained at about zero degrees. Prepared in this way the seeds can be sown in the first half of March.

But for the seeds of tall hybrids and tomatoes, the question is when sowing tomatoes has a slightly different answer. It will be much more correct to sow in early February, since such varieties have a fairly long growing season. If they are sown in the ground a little later, then the tomatoes will not have time to form mature fruits. Therefore, tall varieties of tomatoes should be planted in the soil already in the form of fully prepared seedlings, which should be grown in advance in greenhouses, greenhouses or in boxes inside your own home.

We wish you high yields!
