House for a friend: how to properly prepare a place and choose the size of a booth for a German shepherd

If you decide to get a dog that would be an active friend of your family and could protect your house from intruders, you will definitely have to make a box for a German shepherd.

Preparation for the appearance of a puppy in the house

It's better if the booth is ready for the appearance of the puppy in your house. Methodical training of the baby to your rules must start from the first days.

The exception is when a puppy appears in your house in the winter. In the cold, the baby should be kept indoors until the moment when he turns 4 months old, and the daytime temperature rises to at least 0 degrees. The maintenance of a small sheep dog in the cold will adversely affect his health.

Location:

To ensure that living in your "German" courtyard is as comfortable as possible, it is important not only to correctly size the booth for a German shepherd, but also to choose for her such a position that would suit from the point of view of the convenience of scouring the territory.

Determine at once whether the dog will have an enclosure, or whether it will move freely around the yard. If the sheepdog will be kept free, choose a place for the booth so that with it, she can fully control the entrusted territory, see all the entrances and feel herself involved in the family.

If the dog is kept constantly in the enclosure, it is necessary to arrange it so that it does not feel isolated and has the opportunity to see the entrance gate and the entrance to the house. If the enclosure is intended only for the temporary keeping of the sheepdog during the visit of the guests, it should be arranged in a secluded place, away from prying eyes and hands.

Ideally, the entrance to the booth in the southern regions is best deployed to the west, north or north-west, and in the colder north - to the south, south-west or south-east.

Site Preparation

The booth should not be in a wet place. For it it is better to prepare a concrete platform or a wooden platform. As an option, a mound of slag, crushed stone or sand is suitable. The site is made inclined towards the drainage trench so that water does not accumulate on it. If the site is swampy, a platform is installed on the piles. It should be designed in such a way that it occupies not more than half the area of the dog booth. The German Shepherd will then be able to lie next to his "house" on the same platform.

Types of booths

Classic version of the dog booth - one-room. An improved version assumes a tambour in front of the entrance to the "room" where the dog will sleep. An intermediate variant without a partition is a rectangular box, in which the input is biased in one or the other direction. In this case, the wind blows less inside. The dimensions of the booth for the German Shepherd depend on the chosen design. Well, do not forget that if you took a small puppy into the house, then it will grow, and very well.

One of the best ways to determine the type of booth for a German shepherd - photo. Considering different design solutions, choose one that, in your opinion, will be well combined with the architecture of your house and the landscape design of the site. Bring to the creation of a sketch of children - they just like it.

Materials for making booths

Classical booth for the German Shepherd, whose drawings must be built before direct production, can be created both from a timber, board, and from pressed materials insulated with foam or polystyrene foam, glass wool or other available heaters. The log cabin should not be painted and impregnated with synthetic substances, it is better to use natural linseed oil.

In southern areas, where the summer heat is more actual than winter frosts, it is possible to make a booth out of a shellfish, while in the north the stone booths are rarely practiced and require additional heating. In the coastal areas, these houses are often made of barrels that are out of order. To do this, they are dried, impregnated with natural linseed oil, stuffed with a bottom and fixed on a platform.

How to make a suitable size booth?

The size of the booth for a German shepherd depends on the size of the dog itself. Before ordering a finished house or starting work on its own production, sketch the sketch and apply the parameters to it. There are several simple rules that allow you to determine the appropriate size of the booth for a German shepherd.

- The dog should be able to stretch out in the booth at full height, so the diagonal of the house should be equal to the length of the dog's body plus two lengths of its paws. For the German Shepherd this corresponds to an indicator of about 120 cm.

- The height of the entrance should be slightly less than the height of the dog at the withers - from 50 to 60 cm, and its width - equal to the width of the adult's chest, increased by 5 cm for a female and 8 cm for a male.

- The width of the booth should be equal to the length of the dog from the nose to the base of the tail. For the German shepherd "standard format" this parameter is from 60 to 75cm.

- The height of the booth should be slightly larger than the height of the dog at the withers, and the depth is approximately equal to the height or be slightly less than 5 cm. For the standard male German Shepherd dog, it is 60-65 cm, and for the female - 55-60 cm.

Do not make the booth too large and spacious, especially if you live in a region where the temperature falls below zero in winter. Too much room can not be heated by one dog, and it will inevitably freeze. The approximate dimensions of a booth without a vestibule for a German shepherd are 120 x 75 cm with a height of 80 cm.

Standard booth for the German Shepherd, whose drawings you can compose yourself, is an exemplary sample, the design of which you can vary based on your own considerations, observing the basic proportions.

Such a box is perfectly suitable for your dog, if you do not plan to receive offspring from her. If you took a bitch and assume that she will have puppies, the booths need to be made deeper and wider, leaving the same height and making an entrance in it closer to one of the walls. However, the best solution for a bitch with puppies is a special puppy with a tambour and an enclosure.
