Pharmacological action of the drug

The drug "Heptral" refers to hepatoprotectors, also having an antidepressant effect. In addition, ademetionine (active substance) can have cholekinetic and choleretic effects. The drug is involved in the processes of transmethylation, while donating the methyl group of phospholipids of proteins, cell membranes, neurotransmitters and hormones, then transulfation is the precursor of taurine, glutathione and cysteine. Also, ademetionine can increase the amount of glutamine in the liver, and taurine and cysteine in the blood plasma, reduce the amount of methionine in the serum, thereby normalizing the metabolic reactions in the liver.

The drug has a choleretic effect, which is due to increased polarization and mobility of liver cell membranes, due to the stimulation of the conversion of phosphatidylcholine into them. Due to this, the function of transport systems associated with the membranes of hepatocytes of bile acids, significantly improves and promotes the release of bile acids.

Hepatoprotective and choleretic effects of the drug may persist for up to three months.
