Heel spur. What is this disease and how to fight it?

Before starting treatment of the disease, you should understand the question: "Heel spur - what is it?". Plantar fasciitis is a bone growth in the form of a spine. It is usually formed in the calcaneus and is a change in the soft tissues. As a result, these very spines are formed. Such bulge can be of different sizes. At the same time, the intensity of pain sensations from the size of the build-up may not depend. Many people are tormented by such a problem as heel spurs. That this is a fairly common disease, we already know, now it is necessary to understand the causes of the onset of the disease.

There are several reasons why fasciitis may appear. But in practice it is very difficult to determine.

  1. Very often plantar spurs occur in the elderly. This is due to long loads on the foot. A low tissue regeneration contributes to the development of the disease.

  2. The main reason for the appearance of thorns is flatfoot. In this type of disease, the load on the foot plane is not properly distributed. As a consequence, even a slight stress on walking or unevenness of the soil can cause trauma to the ligaments. Inflammation in the damaged area also seizes the layer of bone tissue, which results in the formation of a spur.

  3. In people of medium and young age, this disease occurs with severe, regular physical activity. As a rule, these are professional athletes.

  4. Over the past few decades, the percentage of fat people on the planet has increased dramatically. Excess weight provides an additional load on the feet. In people with excess weight, the risk of plantar spurs is elevated.

  5. The emergence of spurs indirectly affect other diseases. For example, diabetes, gout, rheumatoid arthritis.

Signs of calcaneal spur formation

  1. The most common sign of the appearance of thorns are painful sensations. It seems like a nail in the heel. The intensity of pain depends on the proximity of the built-up edge to the nerve endings, and not on the size of the spine.

  2. When a calcaneal spur appears, the gait changes. This is due to the fact that the patient is trying to unload the affected area.

But before diagnosing a heel spur, it is necessary to consult an orthopedist or surgeon. Since some other diseases have similar symptoms, for example, Bekhterev's disease.
