Hawthorn tablets: instruction and description

Hawthorn is a shrub or a tree not more than five meters high, which grows on the territory of Russia everywhere. We cultivate about fifty species of this unpretentious, but very useful plant.

Healing properties of hawthorn

An unusual influence of the plant on health was noted by Avicenna. In the nineteenth century, doctors widely used hawthorn preparations to treat angina pectoris, seeking complete healing of patients. Not for nothing physicians called it the most valuable discovery of the nineteenth century.

In modern medicine, based on hawthorn, drugs have been created that are used:

  • To reduce blood pressure and calm the nervous system in neuroses;
  • Removal of attacks of tachycardia, angina pectoris, atrial fibrillation;
  • To prevent atherosclerosis of cerebral vessels;
  • For the treatment of insomnia, dyspnea;
  • To strengthen and relieve fatigue of the heart muscle;
  • For prophylactic purposes in the elderly to prevent changes in the cardiovascular system.

This is not a complete list of the scope of use of hawthorn to maintain health and treat diseases. Remarkably, it has almost no contraindications and is easily tolerated by patients without undesirable side effects.

Healing properties of the plant are determined by useful substances, which are contained literally in each of its parts.

The hawthorn flower contains:

  • Flavonoids (their greatest concentration is in buds), they contribute to the strengthening of the walls of the blood vessels and the cardiovascular system as a whole;
  • Chlorogenic and caffeic acid, which are good antioxidants;
  • Choline;
  • Carotenoids;
  • essential oil.

Fruits contain:

  • Glycosides;
  • tannins;
  • Vitamins, including vitamin C, K, beta-carotene;
  • Saponins.
  • Choline and others.

The leaves of the plant are useful as follows: chlorogenic, coffee, crotal and other acids are their useful constituents.

The bark of the hawthorn contains glycoside esculin.

Seeds of fruits are known for the content of fatty acids and amygdalin glycoside.

All these useful substances contained in hawthorn, can use it as a raw material for the production of various dosage forms.

Hawthorn: medicinal forms

From the plant the following forms of medicinal preparations are prepared:

  • Hawthorn extract (liquid).
  • Hawthorn extract in tablets.
  • Fresh flower juice.
  • Infusion of hawthorn from flowers (fresh and dried).
  • Infusion of fruits (fresh and dried).
  • Tincture of hawthorn on ethyl alcohol.
  • Capsules.
  • Hawthorn tablets.
  • Dry fruits and flowers.

The composition of the preparation is natural. One tablet contains:

  • 100 milligrams of dry hawthorn extract

Tablets are brownish-gray with specks of white and dark brown color, have a specific smell. In order to avoid the purchase of counterfeits, pay attention: each tablet must have a logo of the manufacturer (NP on the background of the tree).

Therapeutic properties of the drug "Hawthorn" in tablets

Instructions for the use of a medicinal preparation refer to cardiotonic agents of plant origin.

It promotes vasodilation, increases the ability of the heart to pump blood. This effect is achieved due to the high concentration of flavonoids contained in the extract of hawthorn. When the pill is taken, the patient has normal blood coagulability, blood pressure decreases. The drug has a mild calming effect.

In the treatment of hawthorn heart failure, the following occurs: after taking hawthorn tablets, the enzymes weakening the heart muscle are blocked, enabling it to increase the ability to distill blood through the blood vessels. This is especially important at the beginning of the disease, when it is still possible to prevent the development of the disease and not take strong chemicals.

Hawthorn tablets are also able to protect the cardiovascular system from plaque damage in the coronary arteries.

Indications and contraindications to the use of the drug "Hawthorn"

The drug is indicated for use in the following cases:

  • With angina pectoris to reduce pain in the chest;
  • Patients with congestive heart failure to improve cardiac function;
  • With various cardiovascular diseases (cardialgia, neurocirculatory dystonia and others).

Obvious counter-indications do not have hawthorn in tablets. The instruction to the drug prohibits its use:

  • Children up to the age of eighteen;
  • Pregnant women and mothers breastfeeding;

Side effects are possible if the instructions for use are not observed:

  • Urticaria, redness, peeling of the skin with increased sensitivity to the components of the tablet;

How to take "Hawthorn"
