Hare Lip: the origin and characteristics of treatment
The hare is an innate curable defect that occurs when the tissues of the nasal cavity and upper jaw are not growing during the development of the fetus. As a result, a cleft in the lip is formed. The disease is formed as a result of mutation of genes, which are responsible for the maxillofacial part of the skull. Mutations arise in the early stages of pregnancy, and the vice itself can be seen on ultrasound at 4 months of pregnancy.
Usually, the disease does not affect the general state of health, but in some cases, sick children have problems with eating and speech disorders occur.
The disease most often captures part of the upper lip. Less often this deviation appears on the lower lip. Also, together with the hare's lip, a split sky may manifest. These are the most common congenital malformations that are associated with the neck and head region.
What causes a hare lip?
The vice can be caused by the influence of the environment or a hereditary factor. If a parent's litter was found at birth, the risk of transmission of the disease to the child is increased.
The threat of illness increases if the mother during pregnancy abused antibiotics, was exposed to any kind of infection or radiation, smoked, took alcohol or drugs.
Symptoms of the disease
Deficiency is visually determined at birth. In addition to the appearance of a physical defect, the hare lip is not manifested in any way. Usually, during the artificial or breast feeding in such babies there is no problem. Difficulties begin with the transition of sick children to self-feeding.
The deviation is determined at the time of the birth of the child, when the examination of his face is made. Even at the first check of the baby for physical usefulness it is possible to establish whether there are deviations in the form of a split sky or a hare lip.
Sometimes it is possible to diagnose the disease using intrauterine ultrasound. But, this diagnosis does not give reliable results.
Features of the treatment of the hare lip
Surgical intervention is an effective treatment for the disease. If the baby has a labrum lip, surgery is simply necessary. The possibility of surgery depends on several factors: the views of the attending physician, the characteristics of the development of the disease, the state of the child's health. The bulk of doctors are confident that correcting the hare lip should be at the age of three months to six months. More precisely, the time of operation is determined depending on the size and severity of the cleft on the lip, the general condition of the child, and also on the features of the infant's development that are documented by the doctor.
When choosing the type of surgical operation, attention is paid to such aspects as the degree of damage to the lips, the presence of any defects in the nose, the detection of the wolf's mouth. When the child grows, if necessary, a correction is made to restore the speech function or to eliminate the result of the scar operation.
Specificity and number of courses of treatment depend on various aspects of health and on the presence of additional defects on the face. So, if a child has an irregular nose shape, then at a later age, correction is necessary, both for aesthetic purposes, and for improving respiratory function.
Specialists still can not exactly answer the question: why children are born with a hare lip. Although this vice sometimes goes by inheritance, but in most cases the cause of its occurrence is not established. Scientists conduct various studies, analyze the structure of genes, study how the behavior and condition of the mother during pregnancy affect the child's future: the diet of her diet and the presence of bad habits.
