short biography

Jean Alesi, whose biography originates from the Italian auto mechanic who immigrated from Sicily to France, was born on 11.06.1964. His full name in Italian sounds Giovanni Roberto Alesi. But all over the world he became known as Jean Alesi.

Racer likes not only high-speed sports, he also enjoys tennis, golf, water skiing. Living in a suburb of Geneva, he is engaged in winemaking. He has his own vineyard in the Avignon area.

Debut in auto racing

His debut in the series "Formula-3" is his performance in France in 1986. This season the young racing driver took the second place. Jean Alesi missed the first place more experienced at that time, the pilot Yannick Dahl.

Debut in the "Formula-1" occurred in 1989. At this time, he also played in the "Formula-3000".

Early career

The career of the rider with the karting of the series "Renault" began, continued in the "Formula Renault". Then there were successful performances in "Formula-3" (France). In the 1987 season, Jean Alesi was able to win in seven races of fifteen, which allowed him to win the championship title.

A year later he moved to the international "Formula 3000". A year later he became a champion, speaking for the team of Eddie Jordan. The victory was won in a bitter struggle with the Frenchman Eric Coma. The drivers got the same number of points, but the victory was awarded to Jean, because he had three wins against two, which the opponent got.

Career in the "Formula 1"

Career in the race of this famous series began with the fact that Eddie Jordan secretly agreed with Ken Tyrrell on the trial of a young rider in the Grand Prix of France. The pilot was able to qualify, and in the race himself finished in fourth place. For Tyrrell, this performance was an unexpected surprise, because before the departure he asked the pilot not to get upset if he does not pass the qualification.

Despite the fact that the contract was temporary, Tyrrell fired his main pilot, Alboreto, and recruited a young rider. Alesi Jean became a pilot of Tyrrell. Already in 1990, at the wheel of the car of this team, he finished second in the race in the American Phoenix. In the fight he lost only to the legendary Ayrton Senna. Alesi achieved the same result at the Monaco Grand Prix. This attracted attention from the leaders. The driver was faced with the choice - to join the team "Ferrari" or "Williams". The Italian roots did their thing, and the choice fell on the representatives of Maranello.

His new team showed excellent results throughout 1990. However, since the next year the team began to have problems with speed. The car did not allow to struggle for a victory because of the Italian twelve-cylinder engine which in the efficiency conceded to the British ten-cylinder engine of a command "Renault".

Jean played for the "Ferrari" five seasons. During this time, he could not achieve high results, beating only once in 1995 at the Canadian Grand Prix. However, his vigorous driving style fell in love with the fans, who treated him very well.

In 1996, Jean, along with a partner in the "Ferrari" moved to the team "Benetton", which was the current owner of the Cup of designers. Prior to this, they left two-time world champion Michael Schumacher. Since 1997 in "Benetton" problems like "Ferrari" began, but still managed to fight for prizes.

Sunset career

By the end of 1997, the team "Renault" left Formula 1, which was the beginning of the decline in Alesi's career. Jean spent the next two seasons in the team "Sauber", which was in the middle of the championship. During this time he scored only eleven points.

In 2000, he joined the team of Alain Prost, which was a complete catastrophe. The team finished the championship, finishing last without gaining a single point. The most unpleasant was the participation in the Grand Prix of Austria, when both the pilot Prost (including Jean) did not understand each other, collided and left the race.

After leaving Prost, Alesi went to work in Jordan, and in the off-season he began to conduct rubber tests for McLaren. This is his career in the "Formula 1" was over.

Further career outside Fomuli-1

After completing a career in the prestigious championship, Jean Alesi (the French racing driver) moved to the DTM series. In the first race, he managed to get on the podium, and in the third - to win. Despite the prizes, he could not fight for the victory in the championship. And in 2006 he was not given a new car. This upset Jean, who ended the season in the series. For five years in DTM the racer participated in fifty two races, having gained three victories.

After a failed return to Formula One, the pilot was able to return to racing in 2008. It was an Arab championship. The race was quite successful and the victories predicted the champion title. But the defeat in the last two races led to the fourth place in the overall standings.

By the end of 2009, the rider had tested the "Ferrari", and the following year he participated in the championship for endurance LMS along with partner Giancarlo Fisichella. In 2011, Alesi became a representative of the British company Lotus. With the same brand of car was associated with his participation in the race "Five Hundred miles of Indianapolis". But he did not qualify because of a weak motor, which did not allow to maintain a good pace. As a result, the organizers removed him from the race.

Personal life

The racing driver was married twice. His first wife Lauren in 1994 gave birth to his daughter Charlotte. From the second marriage with the Japanese actress and TV presenter Kumiko Goto, Jean has three children:

  • Daughter Helen was born in 1996;
  • Son Julien was born in 1999;
  • Son John was born in 2007.

Alesi lives with her second family in Nyon (a suburb of Geneva).

Love for speed these days

Jean Alesi (racer f1) and today prefers high-speed driving. In 2015, he was fined for exceeding the permissible speed on one of the German roads in the vicinity of the Nürburgring. As one of the German newspapers reported, Alesi drove at a speed of 140 kilometers per hour with an allowable 80 kilometers per hour. That is, he exceeded the speed threshold at 60 km / h.

Jean confirmed this incident and said that he was on the road for several hours and was in a hurry to get on the tests of "Formula Renault", in which his son Julien took part in the Nurburgrin.

The perpetrator had to pay a fine of one thousand euros, and he was forbidden to drive in Germany for a period of two months.

Winning statistics

Having spent seven seasons in Formula One as top driver for such top teams as Ferrari and Benetton, Alesi scored only one victory. In thirty-two cases, he occupied the second and third places on the podium. He is considered the most unfortunate racer of this series.

The results of the main performances in different championships:

  • 1989 took the first place in the "Formula 3000";
  • 1994 and 1995 - the fifth place in the "Formula-1" (team "Ferrari");
  • 1996 and 1997 - the fourth place in the "Formula-1" (the Benetton team);
