Forget-me-not-flowers with a history

It seems that in nature there is no such person who would be absolutely indifferent to flowers. Of course, there is no dispute about tastes. Someone likes roses or gladioli, and someone is crazy about orchids or, say, peonies. But there is a plant that will stop even the busiest and most gloomy traveler. This forget-me-not is flowers resembling an asterisk or a piece of sky. Their aroma is so delicate and delicate that it is even difficult to describe or compare.

If you operate with purely scientific terms, you can make approximately the following definition: forget-me-not flowers - or rather, strongly pubescent annual or perennial grasses, which are characterized by a small size. The branching stem rarely reaches a size exceeding 40 cm, the average height in our latitudes is 10-15 cm. In most cases the plant is of blue color with a pronounced yellow eye. However, sometimes there are white or pink specimens that, regardless of the pigment, gather in a special inflorescence in the form of a curl and actively dissolve in May, pleasing us until the middle of June.

This species is found in Asia, Europe, South and North America and even in Australia and New Zealand. The plant prefers a humid climate, sunny meadows and fresh soil. However, for example, the forget-me-not swamp feels great on the outskirts of bogs, on the banks of large bodies of water or even streams.

It's hard to imagine that even these shorties have fruits represented by shiny and smooth nuts of a triangular-ovate shape.

As is known, usually solid words, for example, scientific or sociocultural terms, cross borders and are gradually introduced into another culture or language. Now they are used to designate objects of the modern world or new phenomena. Much less often we manage to borrow, say, parts of speech designed to describe appearance, nature or character. But forget-me-not, like a tiny scout, was still fortunate to take root in the Russian language.

The thing is that practically in every language of Europe it sounds like a native: "forget-me-not" - in England, "Vergimeinnicht" - in Austria or Germany; "Ne-m", "oubliez-pas" - say supporters of style and manners of the French, "nomeolvides" - pronounced passionate Spaniards. And these are just a few examples. What do they have in common? And the fact is that all of them, in the translation into our native Russian language, sound like a desperate request: "Do not forget me, please!"

Scientists linguists tend to believe that in the course of time the verb in the imperative mood turned into a slightly sad noun.

Although there is another point of view. According to her forget-me-not-a flower, whose name is a distorted form of edification or order: "Do not forget-ka!"

Perhaps, there is nothing strange in the fact that this plant became symbolic in the myths and legends of the planet.

Find the very first fairy tale of forget-me-nots turned out to be quite difficult. However, most likely, the beginning of the history of the flower was once laid by the Greeks, who, as is known, possessed a rich imagination. To this day, the myth of a beautiful goddess named Flora. It was she who bestowed on all living things by names. It happened that she forgot about the tiny and seemingly inconspicuous flower, but later, in order to make up for her own guilt, she was awarded not only an unusual name, but also the ability to return memories to people, reminding of friends, relatives or the homeland as a whole.
