Eyelets for curtains: fashionable, stylish, original

Today eyelets are considered one of the most popular and popular ways of fastening curtains to the cornice. And the requests for them are growing every day. But many people think that such task as installation of eyelets on curtains is only possible for specialists. That's not so. In fact, it is not difficult to fasten them, it's just a matter of time and patience. Let's first consider what they are. This will help make the right choice.

So, you can distinguish eyelets for curtains by four main criteria:

  • Diameter of the inner hole (from 1.5 to 50 mm);
  • Material (can be both plastic and metal);
  • Form (traditional round eyelets are considered to be traditional, but there are also figured in the form of squares, triangles, flowers, helmets, dolphins, etc.);
  • Color (monophonic, transparent, imitating the color of wood, leather or metal).

You can choose a suitable model yourself curtains: if you want to hang them, for example, in the nursery, then you should pay attention to the curly eyelets, as they can give the curtains an even more original look.

When choosing eyelets, remember that the diameter of their inner circle should be greater than the diameter of the eaves rod by at least 1.5 cm. If this rule is not adhered to, then you can not freely move the curtain: the eyelets will be stuck. As for the choice of materials, the situation here is also twofold: metal look more beautiful, but plastic is cheaper. In addition, if you choose plastic eyelets for curtains, installing them yourself will be much easier, since you do not need to use a special press, as is the case with metal ones. In addition, they do not scratch the cornice, they are almost noiseless, and the curtains can be washed without removing them, as they do not rust.

Finally, you decided to buy, but do not know how many of these rings you need. Remember: eyelets for curtains are purchased and fixed in an even number. This is necessary for the side edges of the curtain to be directed towards the window. To know how many rings you need, use the following formula: from the width of the curtain, take the distance from its side edge to the center of the very first eyelet (ideally 5-7cm), then divide the resulting digit by the gap between the eyelets (from 15 to 22cm) and add 1. So you get the number of rings needed for one curtain. And since you have two curtains, multiply the received quantity by 2 and safely go to the store for purchase.

Before fixing the eyelets for curtains, the top of the curtain should be made more durable in order to avoid tissue dislocation and dropouts. You can use for this purpose a doublet or a special eye-patch hot-melt tape. Curtains with a fortified top look much more aesthetic, forming a clear beautiful folds. Starting directly to install the eyelets, stock up a ruler or centimeter, pencil and scissors. You need them to mark the location of the rings and cut out the holes.

Proceeding from the fact that the distance from the side of the curtain to the center of the first eye should be from 5 to 7cm, recede this gap, and make a pencil mark. Then attach the ring to the curtain so that the mark is strictly in the middle. Circle the circle inside the ring and through it cut out the hole (it is better even for a couple of millimeters to go beyond the outlined boundaries so that the edges and threads do not look out from under the rings). Then divide the eyelet into two parts: place the lower half on the hole from the underside of the curtain, and the top half with the front. Further, as you could already guess, after that, both halves are joined and pressed. All subsequent eyelets for curtains are attached in the same way at equal distances from each other.
