Epicondylitis of the elbow joint

Throughout life, each person at least once have painful sensations in the joints. They can be provoked by various diseases. The most common reasons include knee epicondylitis, patellar enthesopathy, achillobursitis, heel spurs, fractures, bursitis. The causes of leucorrhoea may be trochanthritis, symphysitis, arthrosis. Most often, pain is characteristic of athletes. So, tennis players have epicondylitis elbow joint. This degenerative-inflammatory lesion concerns the musculoskeletal system.

Epicondylitis of the elbow joint is caused, as a rule, by a traumatic effect on the tissue. This defeat is typical not only for tennis players, but also for certain specialties of people. These include masseurs, plasterers, painters, builders, carpenters.

Epicondylitis of the elbow joint is accompanied by the formation of microcracks in the muscular tendons of the forearm at the sites of their attachment to the bone. Subsequently, adjacent areas of bone tissue are affected by an aseptic inflammatory process. This clinical picture and characterizes the epicondylitis of the elbow joint.

It is necessary to note the greatest prevalence of the disease among men, rather than among women. Its first manifestations are observed after forty years. In tennis players and individuals indicated above specialties, the disease manifests itself earlier.

As practice shows, the internal degenerative-inflammatory lesion is noted less often. It is characterized by the destruction of the muscles of the carpal flexors. In these cases, women who are professionally associated with manual work (for example, typists or seamstresses) are considered to be more susceptible to the disease.

Most often, lateral epicondylitis is detected. Manifestation of a combined (internal and external) lesion is not observed.

The manifestation of the disease is characterized by the presence of pain syndrome. The pain in this case has a number of features that allow differential diagnosis with arthritis. Pain syndrome with epicondylitis is manifested when trying to perform a rotation outside the forearm or extension of the hand. With the passive implementation of these actions (without using the patient's muscles with the help of a doctor's hand), the pain syndrome is not manifested. It is necessary to note the painlessness of absolutely all passive movements with this lesion. It is this fact that allows to differentiate the diagnosis with accuracy.

The second sign of epicondylitis is the projection of pain on the lateral region in the distal bone of the shoulder, rather than on the site of the joint. In many cases, the patient very accurately indicates the site of painful localization. However, in such cases it is not necessary to exclude the reflected pain, which is characterized by the spread to the anterior outer region of the forearm and the outer part of the shoulder.

Palpation can reveal a point with the most pronounced manifestation of pain, but outwardly changes in the elbow joint and skin are not observed.

The symptom of the handshake is also a characteristic manifestation. At the same time, the pain sensation is manifested when the patient's hand is shaken.

Epicondylitis is characterized by the appearance of pain in the implementation of individual movements (for example, supination or extension of the forearm). At the same time, the dependence of the manifestation of pain on the degree of exercise is not revealed.

Epicondylitis refers to diseases that occur for a long period. Some experts refer him to a group of chronic ailments.

In the absence of direct injury, the development of the disease occurs as long as its treatment. Therapeutic measures are based on conservative methods. It is necessary to note the inefficiency of medicines and the inexpediency of surgical intervention. Treatment of the disease is carried out mainly with the help of physiotherapy procedures. The main condition is the provision for the affected limb rest.
