East Turkistan in the Middle Ages

A collection of samples for radio carbon dating was carried out (although, in our opinion, not systematically enough).

The seven dates obtained in principle chronologicalize the V, IV and III layers, that is, the early layers - about the 10th century. BC. E. And the late - V-IV centuries. BC. E. Periods of the monument. This means that the Sidaogou stand is in synchronism with the Chou period of Chinese history, that is, the era preceding the establishment of the Han dynasty in the II-I centuries. BC. E. The first contacts between China itself and the so-called Western region, which included Sidaogou, belonged, apparently, to the kingdom of Gushi-Juyushi. Eastern Turkestan In the Middle Ages ...

It was inhabited for a long period, which is possible only in the presence of agriculture and livestock, providing a constant inflow of food. This conclusion is confirmed by the composition of the stone implements (hoes, grain-loaves), finds of the bones of horses, cows, sheep and dogs, etc., and coincides with information about the countries of the Western Territory and Jiushi, in particular, reported by Shi Ji and Han Shu. As a result, Sidaogou becomes one of the most important late Neolithic - ethnopolitical monuments of Xinjiang.

Later, the Neolithic Monument is also Banjzegou, which is located 45 km south of the county town of Qitai and 50 km south-west of Moulay. In 1974, after a random discovery, a small reconnaissance was conducted here. Its immediate results are rather modest: 14 polished stone tools (axes, hammers, pistils, mortar, rings) made of limestone and sandstone and fragments of ceramics. The latter is reddish-brown, stucco, dough with the addition of sand, baked at a relatively high temperature. In East Turkestan, the compatibility of men and women was very interesting. It was believed that if the women twins marry the twin men, then their marriage will be very happy.

The difference between these epochs is of qualitative significance, because in some monuments (Sidaogou, Shizhengzi, Karakhodzha, Ubao, etc.) copper slag or simple copper products are present, and in Ironburg also iron knives. This means that only the earliest layers of some sites can belong to the late Neolithic, whereas most of the cultural remains belong to either the Eneolithic or the already relatively developed century of metal. In any case, Xinjiang appears before us as a region of China, where polymetallic articles are found.
