Do you need a sewing foot?

In the sewing business, there are many secrets. The quality and aesthetics of a finished product made of fabric will depend on the skill and special knowledge of the seamstresses. One of the most important skills of a tailor is the edging of sections and details. Particularly difficult is the treatment of the armholes, throat and other rounded elements of the products. To do this, usually use a special auxiliary material - tape, cut out oblique. The sewing work is greatly facilitated by the foot for sewing oblique beiki, we will describe it in more detail in today's article.

Baka: types, principle of use

The use of oblique bake is a well-known practice, it is used both by seamstresses working individually and at large enterprises. There are several features of this tape.

First, what is cut out is not along the thread of the weft or the longitudinal fiber of the fabric, but diagonally and at a strictly defined angle of forty-five degrees. If the pattern is mistaken, the ribbon will eventually fall on the product inaccurately, will wrinkle and crumple on the details. A special foot for sewing oblique bake also requires an ideally tailored braid.

Secondly, the appearance of such a braid is also specific - for processing it is not enough to simply cut a narrow strip of fabric, its edges must be laid and the resulting allowances should be ironed. Such a measure will help prevent the material from shedding, and the appearance of the finished product will be neat and elegant.

You can make the oblique bake yourself by cutting the material at the right angle with strips, and then sewing them from the wrong side to get the required length edging. This is the best option, if it is not possible to pick up the bake of the required coloring.

In addition, this braid is sold ready, with bent edges. Most often these are satin ribbons of various shades, but there are also samples made of cotton (plain and printed) and knitwear - this looks looks like a rubber band, but it is not so elastic and has a hem in the middle, thanks to which the fold is perfectly even. The finished tapes produce the desired width, and they lie exactly as they are used when the sewing foot is sewn into the work.

How to sew a slanting bake

To process a slice with the aid of an oblique beam is, in principle, not difficult, but this is a rather laborious work. The algorithm of actions, in the event that the seamstress does everything not with the foot for sewing oblique beiki, which in some machines goes in an additional set, and the universal standard clamping, consists of the following stages:

  • Turn the folded bake up, attach it face to the back of the product and stitch it with even stitches slightly less than one centimeter (7-10 mm) from the cut.
  • Unscrew the tape on the face and press it.
  • Cut the cake into the inside, then fix it, sweeping it to the product.
  • The last step can be done with a sewing machine, then the line should be put on top of the first seam, and you can sew the oblique bake manually using a secret seam.

However, it is possible to make such work easier, you just need to find a special device. You can find out how to use the sewing foot for sewing an oblique beam in the next section.

A beautiful cut at a time, two

The use of additional elements and functions that are attached to standard household sewing machines, significantly saves the time and effort of the craftsmen. So, the foot for the bake very much simplifies the procedure for processing slices, because it makes it possible to avoid overlapping the tape to the product, and the machine is only one line.

The principle of using such a foot is very simple. The tape is inserted into a special hole (to make it easier, you need to cut the edge of the bake at an angle), after which the foot is fixed to the machine. If you use the original part, it is fixed in one movement, however, to combine products from different manufacturers, you may need a special adapter. For example, a Singer or Minerva sewing machine may not be suitable for sewing Brother's oblique sewing foot.

After setting the foot, the edge of the tape should be stretched out a few centimeters and, adjusting the position of the needle (it should enter at a distance of 1-2 mm from the edge of the cut), stitch the oblique bake a few centimeters to fix the thread. The cut of the product is inserted into the slot in the foot and turns into a cake, after which it is necessary to simply stitch the stitch.

Manufacturers

All modern manufacturers of sewing machines offer their customers standard machines with a similar set of functions and additional accessories. The most popular among the seamstresses are the above-mentioned brands Singer, Minerva and Brother, are in demand and machines of the company Janome.

You can also complete the machine by purchasing the missing parts and accessories separately. The sewing foot of Janome is universal, it is suitable for both native models of this brand, and for other household machines.

Snail foot

Many seamstresses, especially beginners, do not always know what the sewing foot looks like. They come in several forms, most often they encounter a snail foot. On its metal base is fixed a special device in the form of a cone with slits. There are several functions for these slits. The first is to facilitate the movement of the tissue inside the foot, the second is to adjust the width of the bake. If the seamstress uses the finished braid, it must be inserted into one of the slots, and when the tail needs to be cut itself, the strip of fabric is inserted into the upper hole of the foot.

The standard foot model is suitable for a 12 mm wide bake, the narrower tape it can not grasp, and the wider one will crumple in the device. Specialized sewing accessories shops also sell other models of snail-legs intended for sewing oblique bake of different widths and even thickness. Most often these are accessories for professional or industrial sewing machines.

Foot with a scale

This is a versatile device that is compatible with all kinds of sewing machines, provided the adapter is used. The advantage of this foot is that it can be adjusted for any width of the bake using a special bending device.

Ideal is the option when the seam passes at a distance of 1-2 mm from the cut. The seam is necessary to control the process and ensure that the needle does not slip past the cut, wrapped in an oblique bake. It is better when the fabric moves inside the foot is not easy, but with some difficulty.
