Configure WIFI DIR-620, password

Wi-Fi-routers are increasingly included in the everyday life of users. More and more people are moving from wires to data transfer "through the air". In this article, one of the gadgets of D-link company DIR 620 will be considered.

Appearance

To know what you have to deal with, it is worth looking at the characteristics of this device. Outwardly it looks like the most common router and does not stand out especially for its unique design or decorative elements. Regular "box".

The front panel is equipped with a row of green LEDs. From left to right their appointment is as follows:

  • A lightbulb indicating an on state;
  • Presence of connection to the Internet;
  • Activity of wireless network traffic;
  • 4 in succession the indicator of the wired connection.

Also on the front panel there is 1 USB port and model name.

The back panel is also a classic arrangement of the elements: 4 LAN ports, one WAN, power connector and reset button. Two antennas are used to transmit and receive wireless network data.

Connectivity

Before you begin to configure the WiFi DIR 620, you need to connect all the necessary cables and cords. The WAN port is used to connect to the ISP. One of the LAN connectors is for initial connection and configuration of WiFi DIR 620.

After the patch cord from the PC to the router is connected and the cable from the provider is inserted into the WAN port, the wired connection should become active.

Configuring WiFi DIR 620

Now that the connection is established, you need to open the web interface of the router. This is done using any available browser. In its address bar it is enough to enter 192.168.0.1. And go over it. The router will prompt you for the password and administrator login for the device. The first time they are connected, their value is admin in both fields. Upon entering, it is recommended to immediately change them to more complex and safe ones.

After entering the administrative panel, the section "Home" will automatically open, where you can see the characteristics and statistics of the device. On the right side of the interface there are two items, one is system settings and management, in the second - language switching.

Setting up an Internet connection

First of all it is necessary to set up a connection to the World Wide Web. To do this, the web interface has a special section "Internet settings". Here you need to choose the way in which you will go to the network. There are two of them - via USB-adapter or Ethernet. If you select Ethernet, all fields will become inactive. With a USB connection, you need to specify the login and password for the entry, as well as the access point in the APN field. All data must be obtained from the Internet provider.

To create a connection using Ethernet, you need to select its interface type and go to the "Network" section. Here is the item "Ptp interfaces", by going into which you can find the active "Add" button. After clicking it, a window opens with the settings for connecting to the Internet.

The very first type of interface. Most providers now use PPPoE, so you need to choose it. Next is the name of the connection, which can be specified arbitrarily, it will still be visible only in the administrative panel of the router.

The physical interface through which the connection will take place is WAN. Next are the parameters received from the provider - username and password. After entering all the necessary data, you need to click the "Change" button.

Wi-Fi configuration

To fully use the capabilities of the wireless router, you must configure the WiFi DIR 620. To do this, again, in the "Network" you need to go to the "Wireless connection".

A few tabs with numerous settings of the WiFi-router D-Link DIR 620 will open. The first item is the network hiding. It can be used in cases where the user wants to limit the number of connected clients. Access to such a Wi-Fi can only be obtained by knowing the exact name of the network.

The SSID is the identifier of the wireless connection, or simply, its name. It is displayed in the list of available Wi-Fi devices on the device. The choice of the country - everything is simple here, the current one is indicated. Setting up the channel can help avoid interference when there is a large density of wireless devices nearby. By default it's 6, but it's better to choose auto, so the router will be able to select the most tranquil channel. Wireless mode defines the standards of devices available for connection. By default, the most universal set is installed. Here you can limit the number of simultaneously connected devices. If you do not specify anything, then you can join as many users as you like.

Now we need to set up security. To do this, go to the "Security Settings" tab. Authentication type - it is necessary to specify WPA2-PSK as the most reliable method. Now you need to configure the WiFi password for the DIR 620. To do this, you have the "PSK Encryption Key" field. You need to come up with a good, password-proof password.

As an encryption type, you can select the TKIP + AES bundle that most devices support.

All other settings can be left unchanged. All that needed to be specified for the reception of the router by traffic from the Internet and transmission to the internal wireless network has already been done.

Of course, there are more subtle settings for the WiFi DIR 620 and its parameters. But their use will be appreciated by people who set up large local or corporate networks.

Recommendations for using the router

There is a short list of recommendations that will help not only maintain integrity and its performance for a long time and improve the quality of the signal:

  • Place the device is within line of sight and preferably closer to the center of the room;
  • Many appliances - televisions, microwave ovens and other equipment, can interfere with the router;
  • The router is a complex electronic device, so its parts are heated during operation, and therefore it should be provided with decent ventilation;
  • If only family members use Wi-Fi, it makes sense to hide the network;
  • The password should be more complex than dialing the numbers in a row, the connected random person can actively use the traffic and the provider will soon reduce the data transfer rate.

Conclusion

This router is an excellent home solution for quickly and easily deploying a wireless network at home or in the office. Setting up the WiFi D-Link DIR 620 is simple and will take no more than 20 minutes from the time you take it out of the box and until the first time you go online.
