When diseases occur, pigs should not be engaged in their self-treatment, it is necessary to contact a veterinarian who has the appropriate knowledge and skills. But it is always easier to prevent the occurrence of diseases than to treat them later. Most of the diseases of pigs are due to poor sanitary and veterinary conditions in their places of detention, as well as the presence of flies and rodents in them, which are carriers of infections and, of course, due to non-compliance with the schedule of vaccinations.

Diseases of pigs and their treatment

Pigs, like all other animals, have both non-contagious diseases and infectious diseases.

These diseases of pigs arise from an improper diet, as well as from non-observance of the daily routine. Do not give the animals spoiled food, and also do not allow them to stay in the feeder for a long time, as they can spoil and become affected by mold.

This type of disease also includes respiratory disease. The appearance of elevated body temperature in pigs, rejection of feed and growth retardation, as well as rapid breathing and cough indicate the presence of these diseases. The cause of their occurrence is most often drafts, when animals are supercooled, also do not give them frozen food.

Diseases of pigs associated with metabolic disorders occur most in piglets. Their reason is insufficient quantity in feeds of phosphorus and calcium, and also vitamin B. Such diseases include plague, which is caused by a filtering virus. This disease affects animals of any age, and signs of its occurrence are vomiting, nosebleeds, fever, digestive disorders, and pink and red spots on the skin that do not disappear when pressed on them. The disease lasts about 7 days. For its prevention it is necessary to vaccinate animals, using a dry avirulent lapinized virus vaccine.

Erysipelas in pigs are mainly at the age of 8-9 months, young pigs and adult pigs suffer from this disease much less often. The erysipelas can be transmitted to a person, her appearance is caused by germs. Signs of the appearance of this disease is the appearance of red spots in the region of the ears, neck and abdomen, and also at first there may be constipation, which turns into diarrhea. For prophylaxis, vaccinations are given by a vaccine or aluminum hydroxide. Inoculations begin to be given to animals from two months and repeat after two weeks. If there is a suspicion that the animal is already infected, then give him serum in the amount of 2 ml per kilogram of live weight, and after 12 days enter the vaccine.

The causative agent of foot and mouth disease is also a filtering virus. Manifestations of this disease will be a decrease in appetite in the animal, an increase in body temperature and the appearance of watery vesicles on the mucous membranes and skin, which subsequently burst and in their place ulcers are formed. For suckling piglets, this disease often ends in death. To prevent animals, intramuscular immunomonecton is administered.
