Cumbrian orchids - a beautiful creation of human hands

The world of orchids is so vast and varied that any attempt to expand its borders by artificially introducing new species of these beautiful plants seems ridiculous and senseless. However, there is never much beauty, and cumbrian orchids are a confirmation. Cumbria is a group of hybrid orchids that do not occur in the wild, because they are the product of human hands. The first cambric was brought out and registered in 1911 by the Belgian breeder Charles Vuilsteke, calling it the Vuylstekeara Cambria Plush.

General information on hybrids of cumbria

The ancestors of the cumbrian orchid are such species as Odontoglossum, Miltonia, Kohlioda, Brassia and Oncidium. Now The family of these artificial orchids is quite large and includes the following varieties: Bellaru, Miltonidium, Burraghearu, Odontoglossum, Odontonidium, Vylistekearu, Brassia, Burragăuaru Nelli Isler, Colemanaru and Wilsonaru. Despite this, on a massive scale, cumbria orchids are not grown, so they are still considered rare plants. The appearance of the cumbria "drive" into any single framework is simply impossible, because all species are very different from each other in color, and in shape and size. The plant can have both tiny half-centimeter flowers star-shaped, and huge ten-centimeter round inflorescences. The same applies to color: the range is dominated by purple, red and brown, but sometimes there are pink, orange, white or yellow cumbrias with bright purple patterns.

Care for home orchids cumbria

Cumbria love light, but they can not stand the scorching rays of the sun and the heat. The most comfortable orchids feel in a well-lit place at a temperature of 16-21˚C. On average, the period of their flowering lasts six weeks. In summer, the Cumbrian orchid is watered no more often than once in 5-7 days, and in winter - in 7-10 days. After each watering it is necessary to wait until the water completely drains from the roots, and only after that the plant can be placed in an external pot.

It will be good to develop and bloom orchid home care For which includes and mandatory feeding. Use special mixtures for orchids, diluting them in certain proportions in water for irrigation. Top-dressing is done monthly, and in winter time - once in 2 months. After the flowering is completed, the old flower-stem is completely cut off from the cumbria, and further care is carried out according to the same scheme as during flowering. The next period of flowering of orchids occurs, on average, after 9 months. The plant must form a minimum of one new flower stem. When it grows enough, the orchid forms a pseudobulb of green color. After that, the cumbria has a rest period, which is required for the plant to form new buds. At this time, the interval between watering should be increased to two weeks and put the orchid in a light, but cool place with a temperature of 16-17 degrees. To normal "mode", the cambrian is returned after the appearance of new flower stems.
