Cultivation and top dressing of a lily from spring to autumn

Lily - one of the most common and popular colors in the garden areas. A huge variety of varieties, a wide range of colors and ease of cultivation allow creating effective flower arrangements on the site. Like all cultivated plants, lilies need fertile soil and periodic fertilization. Feeding lilies, regular watering, loosening - these are the basic rules of care.

When to make the first fertilizer for lilies?

The first feeding of the lily is made in the early spring, immediately after the snow cover. Any nitrogen fertilizer should be introduced into the soil. An excellent option - ammonium nitrate from the calculation of 1 tbsp. L. On 1 square. meter. Those who prefer organic fertilizers can use the dumped mullein for irrigation (the fresh mullein for these purposes is not suitable in view of the aggressive pathogenic microflora) in the ratio 1:10.

Ash water (a glass of ash on a bucket of water) is also suitable as a fertilizer. It should be noted that the introduction of ash has a beneficial effect on the development of lilies. You can bring it directly to the ground or periodically watered with ash all spring and summer. Feeding of lilies in spring is necessary if the bulbs are planted in a new place in April-May.

In this case, the well-ripened compost land is brought into the soil (it is better to use the ready disinfected compost) or sheet humus. You can not make fresh manure, even mixed with the ground, since the risk of decaying the bulbs with it is high.

Lily feeding during flowering

During the spring processing of garden plants, it is possible to spray sprouts of lilies with a Bordeaux liquid. Harm you do not cause this, but save the plants from pests parasitizing on lilies - there are several dozens of them. Proper care and the timely introduction of the necessary nutrients will grow beautiful lilies (photos of some varieties are presented below).

Moist loving lilies need watering, especially at the end of summer, when lush flowering and bulb ripening begins. Water the plants strictly under the root (without touching the leaves), in the morning or in the afternoon.

During budding, the lily is fed in the same way as in the spring. In addition, you need to thoroughly mulch the soil with a layer of sawdust or mown grass. Intensive evaporation of moisture leads to the drying of the soil, which is extremely undesirable for lilies during vegetation. Water caught on leaves can provoke illness. In addition, watering is not necessary, but abundantly. Only then does the water reach the roots of the lily, and not stay in the upper layer of the soil. Very harmful and overheating of the soil, it affects the life processes in the bulb.

Soil composition also plays an important role. If the lilies grow weak or change color over time, it means that they need a transplant to a new location. The primer is needed not too acidic, without any admixture of clay, well-fertilized with leaf compost or overripe humus. Loose fertile soil, cleared of weeds, good drainage and timely moisturization contribute to the active growth and lush flowering of lilies during the summer season.
